Question James Bond Casino Royale - Brand placement gone too far ?

OK, only got around to seeing this film today . Great film but how obvious was the brand placement of Jaguar, Range Rover & Bentley in every outdoor scene with cars in the shot. Jags expecially were in 90%+ of the shots

Did laugh at Richard Branson being scanned at the metal detector scene in the airport

Re: James Bond Casino Royale - Brand placement gone too far ?

The brand placement wasn't just visual though, in one scene on the train where Bond is talking with the banker girl they are discussing each others traits and she mentions his watch..only to get it wrong (that one make and model) where upon Bond corrects her and names another make and model

The film overall I thought was much grittier than previous bonds with the fun, quick one line quips missing, and all the better for it too

Re: James Bond Casino Royale - Brand placement gone too far ?

I still nearly cried when he rolled the Aston Martin, how could they allow such a thing? <g>

I loved the film, one of the best Bond films ever in my opinion as it recaptures the original Bond that ian Fleming made the main character in his books. As we ran out of books and started writing Bond-style films, they sort of lost the plot a bit and started producing a 007 who bore no relation whatsoever to the original. The fancy gadgets had gone way too far (invisible car, oh please!), the stunts ridiculously implausible (car sliding across ice upside down, open sunroof and fire the ejector seat to flip it back over!!!!) and the personal character of Bond had become an invincible superhero more than a spy doing a dangerous job and living on the edge of survival with his wits and grim determination.

I am hoping beyond hope that this will continue into futher films but I rather doubt this will happen. Unless they do another remake, all the books are done so it will again be a newly written screenplay and my guess is they'll step back into the ways of gadgetry and fights where the only cut to Bond is to his suit!

We'll see. Must say though that Mr Craig did a superb job and proved all his doubters wrong.

Cheers,
Rob
