OK folks, list your top 5 tips, that may not be obvious, to new members ( & existing) on how to navigate & use the Pixalo site.

I'll give it a bash :-
  1. In the forums use the "New Posts" button to keep track of all new posts
  2. In the Gallery use "1 day" or "7 day" view , in top right of intial page, to see latest uploads - try "puzzle" view to see more shots on page
  3. In the gallery use the "post comment" button instead of quick reply, to gain acess to full smiley list
  4. To post shots in the forum from the gallery, copy & paste the contents of the UBBcode box under your photo & just paste into Forum thread for piccy to show
  5. Expect someone else to have a better way of performing the above 4

Re: List your top 5 tips to help new members navigate & use Pixalo

1. when doing no 4 above if your picture is above 800pix on its longest length cut out the '/medium' part of the UBB code to show the full size shot

2. On the forums, use the 'multi-quote' button if you want to reply and quote sections from other posts in the same thread. Just select muli-quote for each post you want to include and on the last one tick quote to open the reply with all of the others included...its much quicker and more convieniant.

3. On the forums, subscribe to interesting or important threads so that you can recieve instant notification of new posts or replies.

4. Give reputation points to fellow members when they have posted useful articles or helpful advice, or if you feel they have gone out of their way to help.

5. Update your camera equipment details via your user control panel so that it is displayed in both your user profile and under your name on every post you make.

Re: List your top 5 tips to help new members navigate & use Pixalo

Well, you could try the following....

1. Read 'List your five top tips to help....'
2. Send a private message to Dave, Steve, Sonsey or Stepheno with the word 'HELP!'
3. Read everything ten times
4. Press THAT button and see what happens
5. Ask Angela or FionaB to write this as you'll never get much sense out of a bloke

But whatever you do, stick with Pixalo: it TRULY is the best photography forum+ on the internet and has a great bunch of knowledgeable people who you'll learn loads from.... and be prepared to let us learn from you too :o)

Cheers,
Rob

At least you admit it Rob, that's a point in your favour!

OK, my tips:

1. Visit the "Who's online" link and see what everyone's looking at, particularly the guests, you'll find some really interesting threads that you might not otherwise have come across.

2. Ditto "Random Images" on the Gallery homepage. Some interesting shots that you might not otherwise have seen.

3. Periodically click the "Mark as Read" link on the Forum homepage. Stops you getting very confused if there are some older threads that might not interest you and it saves you looking back into the thread to find you've read everything.

4. Don't forget to look in the articles and tutorials section...helpful stuff there!

5. When in doubt, or if you want to look like you know what you're talking about - filch suitable replies from Gary's posts. Him being the Rep God an' all!

1. Use GPS!
2. ......... but always have a map and compass as backup.....

Oh, er...... maybe not..........

1. Say you're new in the Welcome Forum
2. Precede any forum comment with "I'm new" so whatever misdemeanour you do will be forgiven
3. Keep the "I'm new" going until you start getting PMs from the Moderators suggesting that a year is perhaps long enough!
4. Be nice!
5. Give that splendiferous Markulous loads o' Rep points!
