Re: mime decoder

What is the purpose of the file Fiona..meaning if he is interested in using your photos why would he want to send you something in an unusual file format?

mime types usually tell your browser what to do with the file, they are usually types of audio, video or flash..each has its own mime type and by changing that you can effect what programs will be used to open it (flash, micromedia shockwave, windows media player etc) and how the file will be used.

Its not a simple subject to grasp easily but wiki has one of the best explinations on the subject.

MIME - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

My advice would be not to open it and for the potential customer to send you the file or a link to the information in a format that is easily viewable for you.

Hope that helps Fi

Re: mime decoder

i thought the same myself Steve, i have no idea what it is he was sending......... but it does say its too large for AOL to opne, ( i thought aol could deal with mim files but obviously either it cant or its still too big).
i did ask him to resend so no doubt i will find out what it was..... i remember years and years ago having to have a mim decoder,.......... and i seem toremember that Macs use mim

anyway will wait and see if i get a reply. Thanx for the info

Re: mime decoder

Sorry fiona I seem to have mixed up Mime with mim...I have never heard of the latter but not being a mac user thats hardly surprising.

I think you have done the best asking him to resend in a format you can open
