My day out with a tragic ending

Yesterday went up to London to the tradeshow at the Novotel in Hammersmith was quite good although nobody really giving away too much discount alot of people and traders showing lists of good prices for the show but nobody had alot of it there. Some quite good demos thou. Nikons stand was about the size of my dinner table although Canons was quite large.
Had a mooch round the west end last night sadly whilst walking down a side street in Chinatown it seems someone had been stabbed alot of blood etc and the plod soon closed it all off.
Then got back to Victoria only to find the place in darkness due to a power failure!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: My day out with a tragic ending

As someone who lives on the outskirts of London and keeps abreast of what is happening in and around our capital it sounds like a normal day to me

Re: My day out with a tragic ending

I lived in "sarf" london until 1980, i still go up there alot and have to go throu the tranquil inner city backwater hamlet of.................Brixton where lets just say one has to be "vigilant"
I see now they are taping laser pens onto the bottom of guns so they can see in the dark so if u get a red light on yer get ready to duck!!!!!

Re: My day out with a tragic ending

I must admit you are a LOT brave than me going through that area. I have only gone to Brixton once {a couple of years back} and was VERY glad to leave. While I am no coward {and in my younger days have taken many foolish chances on things} I now think long and hard before venturing into uncharted area's and even if some of the news I hear is fiction I wiuld not push my luck {and possessions}and chance it.
I know that it is a minority that cause the type of headlines we all read about and that the rest are people like us {law abiding} but even so my motto is "better safe than sorry"

Re: My day out with a tragic ending

Too many years ago to remember, a friend and myself used to go 10 pin bowling at Stretham, and used to walk back home along the A23 through Brixton on our way back to Southwark.

Those were the days.....

Funnily enough, I have a ticket for the very last tram that ran - and I was on it. I can remember the trams in the Old Kent road very well, and having to be careful on my bike not to go down the holes where the rails were inlaid into the cobbles. Err - I mean road!

Woody - I spent all of my first 28 years in SE17. I lived Thurlow St until I was about three, then moved to Aylesbury Road before they built the Aylesbury Estate. I went to Michael Farady infants/junior school and Mina Road (Walworth Comprehensive) secondary as I was too thick (or too lazy) to go any higher. I moved to Dunstable in 1975, skillfully avoiding contact with both you and Rob (even at Ceasar's Palace).

Nice One Dabhand
When i worked in Barking in the builders merchants trade i had an old glass cutter that use to work inour branch in comercial road and use to come to Barking to collect the stock on a Horse and cart. He also had {until he died} an old tram ticket in his wallet and took great delight in pulling it out to show to any ticket inspector.
I can remember the old trolley buses in our area and in some respects wish that we could still have that mode of transport today

Re: My day out with a tragic ending

GRAHAM , THE AYLESBURY ESTATE MUST HAVE BEEN THE WORST THING EVER BUILT.
I LIVED IN EARL ROAD, OFF OF DUNCTON ROAD,WHERE THE DUN COW WAS ON THE
CORNER. NOT FAR FROM THE THOMAS-A -BECKET. I MOVED UP TO HEMEL HEMPSTEAD,
BUT FOUND AFTER A FEW YEARS UP THERE, IT WAS GETTING JUST AS BAD ANDJUST
AS BUILT UP AS LONDON.

NOW IN ORPINGTON, JUST AS BAD, CAN'T WIN.
