Is this a passing phase!?

Since taking up photography again I don't seem to be able to walk about and enjoy the view or whatever, I now seem to be looking at everything and judging it's potential as a possible photograph....even if I don't have the camera with me! Is this normal!?

Re: Is this a passing phase!?

I'd say yes - your always looking at/for a potential shot - and you cant depend on finding that "perfect shot" even moreso when you have left the camera at, in the car, anywhere but with you

I wouldnt necessarily say it spoils the enjoyment though - unless you are under real pressure to deliver shots, then I guess this might be the case.

Re: Is this a passing phase!?

After years of taking photographs I sometimes find myself doing the opposite, I think oh I must get my camera and take a shot of that scene, then I think, mmm no this moment is mine and mine alone, I don't want to share it with anybody else. Wierd

Re: Is this a passing phase!?

I do exactly the same Angela .....even worse though, as I'm trying imagine it in Mono

I've done the same in the past when I learnt about proper video editing...... ruined watching films from then on

The worse though has to be the day I watched a documentary on how they add animal noises to Wildlife Programme. Everytime I see a Polar Bear walking in the snow , I just see the image of a person in a sound studio recreating the noise with some polystyrene balls (no funny comments Markuous )

I used to go out to shoot rabbits etc, frequently, I would end up sitting under a tree just looking at the view and watching wildlife. I find my cameras a great incentive to go out and observe I get a bit of exercise and a great deal of enjoyment out of looking,if I get a good shot thats a bonus. Its lovely to be able to get a fine picture to share but to see it is the most important thing. Save a bit of time each day just for looking about you.

Re: Is this a passing phase!?

Since taking up photography (landscape) I attempt to get a place I want to be (top of a specific hill etc) as quickly as possible oblivious to everything I walk past where as before I would take my time and take it all in.

Re: Is this a passing phase!?

Yup, definitely rings a bell! Tho' I'm now through that phase and, like Gary, can see some spectacular view, sunset, etc. and just enjoy it for what it is!
