Password Security
Shamlessly stolen the info from another site I was browsing last week but none the less still valid. I wonder how our membership compares to the average internet user with regard to password security and choices...
The password trends show that the average user cares less about choosing a strong password and more about memorability. Our life these days is largely dependent on passwords whether shopping online, transferring funds or sending emails passwords have a part to play. With fraudsters more and more turning online to get money and we all hear about security breaches and fraud stories all the time. It’s still amazing how people think of passwords as a word they can remember easy, it might just be time for a change if your password is listed here. Top 10 Most Common Passwords 10. Thomas 9. arsenal 8. monkey 7. charlie 6. qwerty 5. 123456 4. letmein 3. liverpool 2. password 1. 123 So is one of your passwords (past or present) in that list and what methods do you use for selecting and remembering your passwords?

Re: Password Security
lol. I use cheat codes from games. They have pretty much random letters. For example "hesoyam" - $250,000 + 100% Health & Armour (GTA San Andreas - PC version)
Sticking on a couple of numbers gets you a pretty damn strong password and as I use them all the time I find em quite easy to remember.

Re: Password Security
I use a variety of passwords but do have a couple that are common acrosss a number of sites. Keep them in a passworded file with a 100+ character password (a sentence using punctuation, so even more secure!)

Re: Password Security
I use variations on the same password for different sites - that makes it easy for me to remember - as it's going to be one of four or five options! - and there are numbers in it to make it that much more secure.

Re: Password Security
I have a fairly random phrase I came across as a teenager and liked. I can then split that up into a number of passwords, and change letters for numbers etc to expand the number of actual passwords I can make from the phrase. The only catch then is remembering which variation on the theme I used for which password.

Re: Password Security
The first rule of password security is to say nothing about your own!
![]() I will say that I have different types of passwords for different sites in the hope that, even if someone cracks a password in one place, they won't be able to do it elsewhere. Still - 'tis a puzzle.

Re: Password Security
For a web site for a society, I asked the Web Master to provide a password protected access to the programme diary so that I could update at will as secretary. The initial password was not in the top ten but might easily have been guessed so I asked him to set up something more secure. He has now set a random Usrname and Password of 23 characters long. Well I asked for it so I cannot complain.

Re: Password Security
I refuse to be drawn into this thread as it is clearly aimed at tricking us into revealing sufficient info about oneself to allow Steve ('The Slippy One') to deduce our passwords and later post incriminating threads that oneself and others will be flogged for!
BTW, my password is 'cor blimey not anuver password deducing scam' which I use for all my online banking. I provide this to save Steve valuable time and easy access to my entire life's savings of 1p. Regards |
