Unhappy Runaround.

Finally got moved into new house & then went to put broadband in only to find out that the previous people did not remove or cancel there contract, so to cut a long story short i was told to phone BT & they would sort the problem out which they arebut takes 7-10 working days, meanwhile the other people contacted their broadband provider to get the mac code [think thats what it is] removed from the line only to be told to contact BT[very helpful]now have to wait 7-10 days before i can order broadband then wait for it to be set up.

Re: Runaround.

Just recently I have been reading a great deal about people having issues with BT and broadband connections, mainly connected with their MAC codes.

It seems to me that just recently there has been lots of complaints (not just with BT) and that the whole industry is letting service slip. The problem is that no matter how much you shout you are still at the big companies mercy.

I just hope everything finally works out for you and that your broadband is in and working as promised in the 7-10days time scale indicated.

Re: Runaround.

You might look on the Off Com web site as there is some background to this. I think the MAC address has to be supplied within 7 day (it is the law) and, even if the previous house owner had not paid their bills, the old ISP is still only given 7 days and you do not have to pay other people's bills. However, there are exceptions to the 7 days and I think that this includes cable companies and some iSP's who piggy back on BT facilities.

That was my understanding too. Although I thought it was just 5 days.

I'm about to leave Nildram due to them being bought by Tiscali - I'd rather dip me baws in boiling water than be a Tiscali customer - so I'm about to go through this process.

Me too. I used to be with LineOne. They were bought out by Tiscali. I stayed with them for a while, but got p****d off with them fouling things up and then charging me 50p per minute to sort it out.

The charming customer relations staff in Taiwan or wherever just could not get to grips with what had happened.

Re: Runaround.

Not enjoyable, as I ecperineced when moving from Virgin to BT. Somehow their central Database managed to have the MAC code somehow owned by no-one, & neither side would help out. Ended up having to get Ofcom involved to sort problem ..... offline for a month

Hope you guys fair better

Re: Runaround.

i dont really understand why you just cant disconnect the line and reconnect in another location........ or with another subscriber........ surely if i moved house all i would have to do would be to take along the modem and plug it into the phone line as i did when i first went bb? obviously after having get them to enable a BB connection

Re: Runaround.

well thats the theory Fi
when we moved house last year, same hassle i think whoever your with
told aol new address and phone number a few days before we moved in
week later no broadband, phoned them a couple of days later,
"oh yes sir, do not worry, it will be sorted in a couple of days" (spoken in best indian accent)
phoned them one week later to be told that i had told them to cancel the order
after a few "well chosen " words, managed to get broadband about a month after we moved in
