Sending payments overseas

There is a huge caveat associated with what I'm going to say here because I know about it only as a recipient and not as a sender, but it does appear to work.

See XEtrade - Overview

I sell to a shop in the US and, in the past, have been paid using PayPal who deduct 3-4% in fees. The shop has now started paying by xe.com which means there is a slight delay, but after a week or so I receive a cheque/banker's draft from 'Custom House Currency Exchange' which is drawn on the Belgravia branch of Barclays Bank. I am told by the proprietor of the shop that this is a much cheaper way than either Paypal or conventional inter-bank transfers where the bank may charge a hefty fee. The only snag is that the recipient has to wait for the cheque to arrive.

As I say, I give no guarantees here so please make up your own mind, but it may be of interest if you're not in a great hurry.
