smoking update
well........... 1 week tomorrow and we are still smoke free.
there have been some touch and go moments like nearly being wiped out on the motorway while coming home from Dundee yesterday........ even my non smoking passenger said that she could have done with a ciggie! Still on the 24 hour patches although had to stop wearing them thru the night.. the dreams were getting WAY outta hand, am missing the evening ciggies more than anything but all in all it has not been as hard as i thought it would be, will give it another week on the patchesthen will try it without them. Alan still on the medium strength ones, has tried a day without them and got really grumpy. so when do we become "non-smokers"? lol Fi |

Re: smoking update
I tried the patches and felt worse than smoking 20 in one go so gave them up. I have a few holidays coming up so will try the willpower again, done it before but lapsed into me old ways.
Im on a diet at the moment so when I have reached my target weight and back from holiday I will do this. Well done, I know how hard it is. If you dont smoke/never smoked then you wont understand. |

Re: smoking update
Fiona
Your already a NON smoker, and you won't be a smoker again unless you give in. Now that you have the first week coming up I'd say you've done the hard bit. The first week is the week you start to break the habit, but from now on it get's easier. Saturday just gone was 4 years to the date for me, and although I'm now a podge I wouldn't for one second think about starting again. One week in and you have stopped smelling of ciggies ( sorry it's blunt but it's true ) Now your food each day will start to taste better, you may not notice it just yet but believe me it has already. The Grumpiness is still only there because subcontously ( sorry can't spell ) your fighting an addiction that the medical peeps admit is stronger than herion. Best of all your AN EX SMOKER Keep it up ![]() |

Re: smoking update
well the patches just went up by a fiver! so im not actually saving that much money........ dont intend staying on them more than a week or so just to give me a chance to deal with the physical habits and not the nicotine withdrawal!
hanging in there..... but bloody well determined not to give in! Thanx for all the support everyone, both Alan and I really appreciate it Fi |

Re: smoking update
Fi,
Nicotinell £7/pack in Boots today. Seems cheap to me, I think they were £10 in Morrisons. |

Re: smoking update
FIONA, I DON'T KNOW WHETHER YOU HAVE THIS AT YOUR GP'S SURGERY BUT AT OURS
THEY HAVE A DISTRICT NURSE, WHO RUNS A GIVE UP SMOKING PROGRAM. MY WIFE WENT ON THIS A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO, BASICALLY THE NURSE CHECKS YOUR BREATHING, EVERY COUPLE OF WEEKS I THINK. IF YOU AGREE TO GO ONTO THIS PROGRAM THEY GIVE YOU THE PATCHES FREE. TO START WITH THEY GAVE MY WIFE TWO MONTHS SUPPLY STRAIGHT AWAY. THEY WERE FIFTEEN POUND A PACKET THEN. IT MIGHT BE WORTH LOOKING INTO, BUT I DON'T KNOW IF THEY DO THIS IN SCOTLAND. |

Re: smoking update
aw thanx everyone
Woody., there is a smoking cessation nurse in our surgery, cant get an appointment until the 15th Feb. There is also a smoking cessation clinic at my work( i work for the NHS) but its only on Thursdays from 4.30 until 5.30 which is absolutely no good to me. as i finish my work at 2.30 I will perservere however and the patches will come off soon anyway.
