sods law
well isnt life just typical.................. i get a decent order for prints from the recent HNS photo shoot...... and half way thru the print run my printer starts banding. so i think " ok i will clean the heads before it gets worse". so i clean the heads... and then what happens.......... the black disappears altogether
![]() so i check the inks and the black looks like it could be out ..ok i put a new black in...... and still no black. so i run a head cleaning. then a deep cleaning. then another. then anther.. gets a few lines of black on the nozzle check. runs another head cleaning and they disappear again......... THEN....... run out of the only flaming colour i dont have so i had to order more and now i cant do anything with the printer, not even try another new black until the inks arrive....... and im just hopping it works cos i cant afford to chance it and buy a new print head and find out its not that!!........ GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR ![]() ![]() Fi |

Re: sods law
That's just typical, its sods law that it happens at the most inconvenient time.
![]() I would bite the bullet here and just have the prints done through a professional printers so as not to keep your clients waiting. These are orders from your first shoot and your reputation will be made or broken by the results and time it takes to supply. If the inks arrives and you still can't get your printer to function correctly, all you have done is delay the customer longer as you will have to have them printed via another method. |

Re: sods law
What make of printer is it Fi? I ask as I had this a couple of years ago with my last canon printer and it was the printheads, which would have cost almost as much as the printer to replace. As I had a stock of inks (bought at big discount) I ended up with another printer. Good luck

Re: sods law
yep its a canon i9950...... print head is £79.99 , which is no where near what the printer would cost to replace, but still a huge amount of money to spend just to find out its not the print head. Inks should arrive tomorrow fingers crossed.

Re: sods law
How old is the printer and have you been using just original inks?

Re: sods law
In that case I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, you might be lucky and be able to flush the head to give it a thorough clean. Something to keep in mind

Re: sods law
Hi Fiona, This is what happened to my I9950, do a search on google, apparently it's a common problem with these. You can take the head off and steep in water but it didn't help me, luckily mine was still under warranty and had it replaced (with an Epson1800 as Canon was discontinued). I still have those spare inks if you want them?

Re: sods law
I think you can get a special fluid to flush out the print head as well, I think you soak it to loosen any blockages. Mine was the A4 ip950, so not so much to replace it as your A3 printer.
How do you get on with the third party inks? I've never used them as I've heard tales of blockages and fading. |

Re: sods law
Terrible thing to have happen.
On the other side of things, I had to read the whole post to figure out what "sod's law" is. Apparently, Murphey's Law and Sod's Law are one and the same, but could someone please explain "sod" for this inept Americajan? |

Re: sods law
Try some denatured alcohol (think you can still get it from a chemist) and bathe the heads in it
