Re: Stopping Smoking
Keep it up Gal,
Just one thing what patches are you using coz some are 24hr and some aren't. I used Nicotinelle 24hr patches and had no itch or nightmares. Remember the brain only craves a cigerette for about 2 minutes at any one time so if you fancy a ciggy just turn up your music and sing along ( noise polution isn't too bad ), stop the car for a minute. I am on the road every day doing about 1200 miles a week and it doesn't help but you can and WILL crack it. Go GIRL ..................................

Re: Stopping Smoking
thanx C-man........ im using the 24 hour patches, no nightmares but very very strange dreams! lol and yep they itch like hell for the first wee while.
Alan is using hte middle strength ones and he has no itching so im guessing its the strength that makes it itch. however i can and will put up with it. Fi |

Re: Stopping Smoking
A lot depends on how many you USED to smoke, you need to tailor the patches to suit.
I smoked 60 a day rollups so I used the max strength ones for a Month, as per my Doc's instructions. After a month I stopped using them as I felt there was no need. I've been discussing today losing some weight now with my Mum who's a weight watcher life time member. Thats this years goal to lose the 3 stones I've put on in 4 years

Re: Stopping Smoking
Yeah the weight thing is what's worrying me now ... have always been slim, but where oh where has this sudden extra weight started to come from
Could it be the choccies I keep scoffing every night Thing is, the time I most want a ciggie is when I'm hungry ... so in the evenings, when my daughter's asleep in bed + I can relax + put my feet up, I seem to just keep eating so that I'm never hungry LOL + so's I never get that after-food craving either, since I don't stop eating long enough

I dont eat a lot during the day..... no breakfast then a filled roll at lunch and thats it.. but come 8 - 9 pm. onwards...... i munch almost constantly if i can!/..... lol i even eat during the night if i wake up......... i need a pee? i go via the kitchen! Re: Stopping Smoking
If you smoked between 15 and 20 you should be on medium patches not high strength ones.
When you get your next lot go down a level and they won't make you itch

Re: Stopping Smoking
Oh gosh, Fiona, if you wake up like I do with these patches, then you gonna put on a whole lotta weight
![]() The other night I tried taking the patch off for the night, to get a good night's sleep, but I quickly decided that the dreams weren't so bad that it was worth tempting fate (of falling off the wagon). They're not as bad with the Niquitin. I started on Nicotinell but changed last week to the Niquitin, 'cos of the itching. With Nicotinell my arm itched like hell after I took the patch off. Now with Niquitin it itches for a bit as soon as I put the patch on, but stops after a while. It still leaves a red mark for a day or so, but it doesn't itch. I much prefer the square shape of the Niquitin, it's a smaller patch + stays on better, whereas the round Nicotinell patches start to come unstuck, mainly 'cos they cover a bigger area + thus bend around the curve of your arm, whereas the small square Niquitin patch doesn't go round the bend, if you know what I mean. Ref strength, I think it's common to start ppl off on the strong ones, depending not only on how many you smoked a day, but also what time was your first cig of the day + how long you have smoked. |

Re: Stopping Smoking
That sounds sensible Fi. I think the logical thing to do is to wear them durng waking hours only. After all, if you didn't used to get up in the night for a ciggy (most 15-20 a day folk don't) then you won't need the patch then. However, if you fnd yourself waking up in the morning with a craving, maybe you'll have to rethink it or maybe stick one on if you are like me, tend to stir at about 5am and then go back to sleep again.
Either way, just keep going gal, I'm really proud of you and will give you as much verbal support as I can. You deserve it ![]() Cheers, Rob

Re: Stopping Smoking
The patches' instructions all say that it's important to wear them throughout the 24 hour period, including at night. This is because the patch 'drips' nicotine into your system at a certain rate all the time you're wearing it, so that if you take it off at night you will only have received half the amount of nicotine that you should have. Thus you're more likely to crave nicotine the following day.
That's not to say that I haven't broken any 'rules' of giving up smoking myself ![]() Just be aware that the patches are intended as a complete course, and as such if you don't follow the instructions they may not be as effective as they should be over the duration of the course. |
