Trip to Scotland
Gang,
My sister and her husband are taking a trip to Scotland at the end of the month. They are staying in Aberfelby (Perth County) - spellings may be off - and this is their first trip there. I told her I have seen some wonderful photos from people who are intimate with the general area and maybe I can get some tips on where she should visit. They are a 30 year old adventurous couple in very good condition for hiking and the like. They do have a rental car that she is sure she will wreck on the wrong side of the road. As if my begging for photo advice isn't enough, can you offer some suggestions on places to visit. BTW, a few wonderful pub recommendations would cap off a great day in Scotland I am sure. Thanks.

Re: Trip to Scotland
About spitting distance south of Aberfeldy there is the Birks of Aberfeldy. Lovely waterfalls which will be in full flow given the rain we've had.
North of Aberfeldy there is: - Fortingall - 2000+ year old yew tree and rather lovely little village/church. Nearby is Glen Lyon - Scotlands longest and arguably most beautiful glen. There is Loch Rannoch, Queens View on Loch Tummel and Schiehallion all north of Glen Lyon West of Loch Rannoch is Glen Coe and the Rannoch Moor. East, i'm not so sure as I don't do east ![]() Basically you are in the heart of what is arguably the most beautiful part of Scotland. This is a great site for places of interest: - Killin and Aberfeldy Area Main Page on Undiscovered Scotland |

Re: Trip to Scotland
in perthshire itself is a lovely place called the Hermitage near a village called Dunkeld, beautiful waterfalls and woodland walks, you have also got lots of photo opporunities in pitlochry and surrounding areas.
its not that far from where they are staying to anywhere as they are pretty central, ( okay maybe the north west highlands etc are a bit of a drive. But if they want to go north east a couple hours driving will get them to Loch ness and the great Glen and then Urquhart Castle and on up to Inverness. Fi |

Re: Trip to Scotland
Heading West a little to around Bridge of Orchy and Crianlarich offers a lot of Munro (3000ft+) mountains in a relatively small area. Cruach Ardrain, Stob Binnein, Ben More are all rewarding climbs although coming from the States they may think these hills are easy climbs - I've taken Americans up a few hills and they all say they are gutbusting to get up compared to much higher but well served by footpaths mountains back home, so due care in the very changeable weather at this time of year is recommended.

Re: Trip to Scotland
and remember you have to look on the hills and mountains, cos they only run in one direction ( clockwise, thats why they have shorter legs on the right than on the left to keep them balanced properly!
