Re: Who killed the Electric Car ?
Electric cars are all very well, but you need a gie long extension cable for going a long distance!

Re: Who killed the Electric Car ?
As if an ariel atom wasn't quick enough !!! They do say that electric motors give excellent instant low down torque which = superb acceleration.
I don't think the washing machine motor and some D batteries will have the same effect. ![]() |

Re: Who killed the Electric Car ?
A friend of mine has just bought a Toyota Prius which has an electric motor plus batteries and a petrol engine. Normally both the petrol engine and electric motor run and the combination ensures you have fully charged batteries but can achieve excellent petrol consumption (50-60 mpg). Apparantly it is easy to manage this lot because it is run by a computer which optimises everthing. This may not yet be the holy grail but it is a step forward and solves some of the previous problems with electric cars.

Re: Who killed the Electric Car ?
I tried out the Honda Hybrid last year. Quite apart from it being the least comfortable car I've sat in for ages, the quoted fuel consumption was 58mpg overall. Given that I get 45 - 47 mpg out of my very comfortable Scenic, I couldn't see much point in switching.
On the other hand, if this is the future, I might be persuaded... ZAP World - 1/30/2007 - The ZAP-X Crossover Electric Car - 155mph, 644 Horsepower, Based on the APX Technical Demonstrator Vehicle Designed & Developed by Lotus Engineering ![]() |
