Heard on the radio today the following facts from a study in the UK
On average women speak at the rate of 20,000 words per day, vs men at 7,000 Now what do people read into that ?PS. Oh yes & it was also mentioned women get a high from hearing their own voice....don't shoot the messenger....it was on the news ![]() |

Re: Women talk more than men - Official
It is true and so is fi's statement but I would ask why do women wait till the man's favourite sport or tv show comes on to talk, why cant they do it when home n away or coro or eastidiots is on.
on a nother note I would not dare to say shhhh or shhhhhrruuuup to my better half. I have enough injuries at the moment as it is. ![]() |

Re: Women talk more than men - Official
I wouldn't tell my wife to shut up as frankly that is downright rude! But I agree with Gary, it is all in the timing. Women often assume that because football has no dialogue or storyline to follow, we don't really need to listen to it so they can talk and expect us to listen over the footie. Sadly, that shows a lack of understanding of human physiology. The ears and eyes work in tandem together, they are not too separate entities that can work independently, not even for women who are better at multi-tasking.
So, if you want to talk to us during the football, it will have to be a commentary on the game so that our eyes and ears can give the integrated information to the brain. I know this sounds a bit daft but I assure you it is true: if you watch football and listen to an unconnected dialogue, one of three things will happen: 1) You will hear the story but miss the action, even though your eyes are looking at the screen, 2) the sound going in your ears will not make sense to the brain as your eyes are remaining dominant, or 2) you will confuse the brain and not actually hear the story properly nor catch the action of the game. What will definitely not happen is that you will catch the action and the story. So come on girls, it's a maximum of 45 minutes to half time or full time. If you say 'Babes, can I talk to you at half time?' they will if they are reasonable be perfectly open to that. If the game is not doing much, they might even say 'Go ahead, we can talk now if you want' but don't bank on it! Likewise men, why interrupt your wife/partner when they are watching Eastenders? So what if it bores the pants off you? It doesn't to her and she no more wants to miss Grant kissing his latest bimbo than you want to miss your star player scoring the winning goal! This isn't made up, it is available in any good marriage/relationship guide :o) Now, shut up, I'm watching the footie! <g>

Re: Women talk more than men - Official
and why do all men seem to think that all women watch soaps! ?
i know i for one cant stand them. and its not my fault if i require an answer to a question during the football. men take it so seriously. after all its a bunch of "men" running round a bit of grass chasing a ball to kick it in a net..and they dont even look good in shorts. now......... if it were Rugby............whoooaoaarrrr................ whole different ball game.......literally! lolol Fiona |

Re: Women talk more than men - Official
See, Rob is right. If I try to talk to my OH when the rugby is on...I get yelled at. I'm a big rugby fan too (Welsh you see, it's in the genes) and I'm watching the game as well but sometimes something pops into your head and I have to ask it then otherwise I will have moved onto the other 50,000 things (that might be a slight exaggeration but it's close) that I have to think about....and DO think about whilst I'm watching the game....and will have forgotten it by the time the game finishes! And that was a very long sentence and that's why we talk so much!
