Wrong job?

Two things have happened recently to make me think I am in the wrong job.

The first was this weekend...
There was a burst water pipe in the village on Thursday evening, and we've been without water since Friday night when the water board came to fix it. Late last night the supply was finally restored but had left us with an intriguing problem in the downstairs shower room.

Piping hot water was coming out from the cold tap, and the cistern was also being filled with hot water. Whatever we did we either had no water, or boiling hot water when it should have been cold! After a bit of head scratching and trying various things to fix what we'd guessed to be an airlock we caved in and called the plumber first thing this morning.

They were here for less than 4 minutes. They solved the problem by sucking the water down the pipes with a hoover! Easiest £50 quid ever made?

The second was a few weeks ago...
A tile had slipped from our roof and got wedged on top of the bay window. We called the local roofer who popped round, shinned up his ladders, retrieved the tile and popped it back into place. All done and dusted in about 10 minutes. He knocked at the door and told me that would be "75" - I replied with "is that p or pounds?!". It was pounds

I am considering retraining next year

Re: Wrong job?

Some time ago I was the duty officer for my department. This entails being on-call out of hours - 6pm - 7am for a week. One evening there was a leaving do for a whole section of staff at the end of their contracts. It was held on a boat moored on the Thames and there was a huge party and a disco.

I kept hooking my mobile out to see if there were any calls as I could not hear it ring, and someone asked why I was always looking at it.

When I told him, he asked what area I was covering. "The whole of the UK and Northern Ireland", I said. Wow! He was well impressed. "How much do you get for that"? He asked.

"£6.50" I said. After a short silence, we both burst out laughing.

The joys of being a public servant.......
