10,000 pictures

Just looked at my shutter count and realised ive taken just over 10,000 pictures in under 6 months. Just wondering whats the life expectancy of a canon 400d

If only they were all good

This got me thinking:

How many wasted shots do you take?

Do you keep them just incase you can salvage anything?

Do you rename every image so you can find them or like me are they just in folders named after the date i took them?

Is there an easier way to store/find my images because at the moment i have 2 hard drives with every picture ive ever taken stored on them and im starting to get a tad confused of where to look.

Like my life at the moment it needs sorting out a bit

Dave

I took close to 6k in 6 weeks when I went to Oz/NZ

Know what you mean!

None! Every one's a good 'un - just that no one else sees it that way!
Varies. Can be nearly all both ways, but I tell myself that none are ever wasted as it's all good practice!

Yup! And I sometimes do!

Pic numbered folder with a brief description (so always in pic number order)

Same here: 2 drives (RAW + PP'd TIFF and WebReadied) + RAW backed up to external drive

But I also use ThumbsPlus Pro which is a fast thumbnailer. Create different databases for differing cameras/projects/drives

Loads, but it varies. There are often cases where I'm not particularly proud of a shot in its own right but it's nice to have as a reminder of the event or whatever.

Yup, although I only normally keep the RAWs and final jpegs. I don't keep any intermediate TIFs or ought.

I use a thing called DIM (Digital Image Mover) to automatically rename the files according to their timestamp, so I know the date and time of every pic that way. Folders are organised by date and camera type.

There's no quick solution to this but I find having a decent online gallery set up helps quite a bit. I try to use meaningful keywords when I'm adding images so if I'm looking for something specific I search for it in the gallery and get the filename (time and date) that way, so I can dig out the original full res version.

There are various products which claim to help organise your pics but I haven't liked many of the ones I've tried. Picasa is quite fun (and free!) but I'm sometimes irratated by the way it finds and sorts files.

Re: 10,000 pictures

Most I've done is 8000ish in one weekend.

Mind you that's shooting two running events. Well when I say shooting, machine gunning is actually a more accurate term

My shutter went titsup back in the summer and got repaired under warranty. I think I'd have done about 40k at that point in the 8 months I'd had the beastie.

I'd love to know how many shots pros rattle off a week (at sports events).

The 1D. The blades went during a triathlon. Initially some shots were OK but others were massively over exposed in the middle (in between curtain sync?).
Finally ended up with blades randomly appearing in the shots .

GSgary

That wasn't a good weekend overall. A colleague's previously fine 1D3 eRR99'd the night before. The subsequent replacement bodies he's been given have the tracking issue. I think the current one is off to the doctors for the recall fix.

Will Canon still be able/ want to replace the sensor if, god forbid, you have a prob?

My colleague had to go back to his 1D that day and I didn't pack my 20D........

Set a new personal record yesterday.

4113 shots in 53 minutes at the Brighton 10K run.
