Maybe the average consumer camera 3 years ago.... and that's less than 1mb per 1mpx too

It's intersting alright but hardy "cutting edge" tech as they describe it. The very beginning of pro digital photography was with scaners mounted to large format cameras. It can obviously work very well but not if the subject moves even by the smallest amount.

There are 22mp backs that have been around for while that can still take 4 pass shots and produce 160mb files which I would imagine will equal if not surpass the detail from that scanning back.
