20d to 40d-compatability?

I was wondering if anyone new if the battery grip and battery's from the 20d are compatible with the 40d? i have been thinking of getting a 40d for wildlife photography to fill in until i can afford a 1d mk3 i am also thinking of getting a 5d for landscape work as well-are battery's from the 20d compatible with the 5d?

The grip is the same as the 20D so i assume the batteries are the same...Ray

The BP511 batteries fit the 20, 30 and 40D's plus the 5D, oh and Canon's portable hard disk viewers.

Just be aware that the 5D has a different battery grip from the XXD bodies though.

good stuff thankyou all-i was hoping they were the same, well i might keep the grip from my 20d and spare battery's when i get a 40d then seem as they all fit

Good idea, the only difference between the BG-E2 grip and the new updated BG-E2n grip are a couple of bits of rubber inside the battery door which add a bit of weather sealing... not really worth upgrading for IMO.

Have I missed something but wouldn't you be able to afford a 1D sooner if you did not buy the 40D. I have a 20D and do not think I would part with funds for a 40D unless my 20D had died (perhaps yours has?). However, a 1D Mk III would be nice.
