300d firmware 7 point auto focus HELP

hello there,

im looking to get the option to turn off the 7 point auto focus system on the 300d. Idont like this feature, I just want the centre to focus. I have tried to put the undutchables firmware that let me have most things like control of image sharpness etc in auto but not the control of the 7 point autofocus, then I treid the wasia firmware this did nothing for me apart from take away a few of the feture the undutchables gave me. I still have the 7 point auto focus system on unless I choose p or manual etc. I want no 7 point in auto and portrait etc, can you help?

Thanks

Eddie

There are 2 buttons on the back in the top right corner press the right hand button look in the viewfinder and all 7 autofocus lights will be on now rotate the control wheel and the autofocus points will light individually when you get to the one you want stop. this will then be the only point that works.

Re: 300d firmware 7 point auto focus HELP

I understand why you want to do this. I also found the 9 point focussing on the 20D caused problems in some cases so decided that I would just use the centre point only. You can set this for all the "creative settings" i.e. Manual, D of F, Tv, AV and P. I think you are correct that in other automatic modes you cannot normally change this. I would imagine that your camera is similar.

As you are developing your skills and have found the value in taking more contol, why can't you just use the creative settings. I have never used anything but the creative settings and, like may photographers, I frequently use the programme mode which is fine for most routine shots but I use Tv, AV. and manual when I judge them appropriate.
