Adobe Raw 4.2 Help Please
As Adobe Raw 4.2 Is A Plug - In , Should It Automatically Come Up In
Elements 5. I Have Tried Everything To Find The Raw Shots I Took, But Can't Find Them Anywhere. When I Have Tried To Open Raw 4.2 A Box Comes Up Saying This Is The Wrong Type Of File. Can Anyone Please Tell Me What I Am Doing Wrong. This Is The First Time I Have Decided To Use Raw, So I Don't Really Know What I Am Doing. Help And Advice Please. |

Re: Adobe Raw 4.2 Help Please
Firstly have you correctly installed the Adobe Raw Plug in. The instructions are :-
You first need to 'unzip' (decompress) the 'Camera_Raw_4.2.zip' file that you downloaded, this will produce a 'Camera Raw.8bi' file, then follow Adobe's instructions to put that file in the correct location: 1. Exit Photoshop Elements 2. Open My Computer 3. Double-click Local Disk (C: ) 4. Navigate to Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements [3.0, 4.0 or 5.0]\Plug-Ins\File Formats 5. Move the existing Camera Raw.8bi plug-in to another location (for example, a new folder on your desktop). Ensure you keep this version in case you need to revert back. 6. Copy the Camera Raw plug-in, Camera Raw.8bi, from the download into the same folder as Step 4. 7. Launch Photoshop Elements Do not try to open Raw files in your camera or on the storage card. Download the RAW files from your Camera or card to your hard disk; I store mine in a month Folder for each year so I can easily find them. If you double click on the Raw file icon in the Elements Browser, it should automatically open in Adobe Raw. If you are downloading your Raw files directly from your Camera you may need to use the Camera Manufacturers software to do so. I hope this helps. |

Re: Adobe Raw 4.2 Help Please
I am still puzzled in that you should be able to see your RAW files either in Windows or in Elements 5 organiser. If you cannot see thumbnails for your RAW files, you cannot double click to open Adobe Raw. There is another way of opening files in Adobe Raw (Elements 5) but you must locate the files first on your hard disk.

Re: Adobe Raw 4.2 Help Please
maybe you moved the whole file you unzipped and maybe its not reading it because lots of times zipped files come inside one and sometimes two subfolders, if this is what you did, try moving just the plug-in file (the Camera Raw 8BI file) to the Adobe plug-in folder by itself.

Re: Adobe Raw 4.2 Help Please
Adobe raw 4.2 is not a stand alone program. Dave is nearly right but what comes up when you double click depends on what the computer has been set to do. If you find a raw file in the browser and right click Then uyou get a number of choices choose Open With and then select Adobe Elements 5. The file should open in the Adobe raw 4.2.

Re: Adobe Raw 4.2 Help Please
Woody, I would not give up. I only upgraded the Camera Club's Element 5 to Adobe Raw 4.2 yesterday. The following is the link to Adobe which allows you to download the Plug in and also gives precise instructions for Elements 5. I followed the instructions precisely and it all works fine. Either your Elements installation has a problem, if so, consider reinstalling or you cannot be following Adobe's instructions.
