Advice for a shoot?
hi, i have been asked to take a number of photos for a company in Belfast for advertising purposes and a prospectus; I am needing some advice for the job!
it will be photos of a number of buildings in Belfast and some of vehicles on the companys site. firstly, i have not much of an idea of the cost of jobs like this, obviously i would not be charging overly high rates as its my first time at this sort of thing but i dont want to be handing away free photos at the same time. Do i charge more/less for it being published in a prospectus? do i charge for travelling expenses? what would a average cost be for giving the company the photos to use wherever they wanted for whatever reason? i probably will have more questions but that will do to start off!! answers by PM's are ok as i understand people may not want to discuss prices etc on the forum! thanks in advance, Steve Last edited by Steve400 : 09-02-2007 at 16:52. |

Re: Advice for a shoot?
It all depends on what you want to do and how you want to deal with this client in the future, For this I would charge an hourly rate starting at £120.00 for the 1st hour and then £75.00 / hour after that. That would include images on a cd rom and a contact print. For this sort of shoot trying to cgarge them per shot used etc is just going to become a knightmare and you cant check all uses etc. you would be making a rod for your own back, trust me ive been there.
I did a job for metro the other day a half hour shoot in the city centre of some employees after a nice meal, £120.00 cd and contact print, client happy, me happy, on to next job. ![]() |

Re: Advice for a shoot?
thanks for that advise gary, i have always been used with just charging for prints from motorsport events but this is a whole different setup. i see how an hourly rate would be a lot handier than charging per shot! by a contact print do you mean a small proof shot of each image or what?

Re: Advice for a shoot?
Hi Steve, I can't really offer any advice as I've never done anything like this myself but I just thought I'd pop in and say good luck, I'm sure it'll all go well.

Re: Advice for a shoot?
HI STEVE GOOD LUCK ON THE SHOOT. YOU DON'T SAY HOW FAR YOU HAVE GOT TO TRAVEL FOR THIS JOB, BUT IF IT IS NOT LOCAL TO YOU, I WOULD THINK OF ADDING TRAVELING TIME. ALSO IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE AWAY OVER NIGHT, YOU NEED EXPENSES. DON'T WORK CHEAP JUST TO GET THE JOB. BEST OF LUCK. |
