Anyone familiar with advertising rules? kinda photography related
Hi
I was wandering if anyone knew if i could mention my rivals prices on my website. I often see tesco showing asda prices and saying theres is cheaper, even banks do it im sure you have all seen it before but is it legal/ok. Its just that i can supply 360º virtual tours for business's and have just found out that a large company sell them for £300 +vat, i can supply them for free. Would it be ok to mention this ![]() |

Free You must charge something or people will look for a catch and you are doing yourself out of earnings!Sorry I can't answer your question but it might be worth a call to your solicitor. |

Re: Anyone familiar with advertising rules? kinda photography related
Of course you can mention the company name and price! Reason you don't find it more often is that if a price changes........ Even then, providing you changed the displayed price upon request they couldn't do much

Doing it for free is simply depriving a professional out of their living! How would you like someone to do that to you?

Re: Anyone familiar with advertising rules? kinda photography related
Agree with Les & Gary, why would you give your hard work away for free, by all means, price competatively, but with people giving photographs away for free, it does make it very hard for anyone trying to make a living or part time job from photography as clients don't place any value on your work.
I wouldn't place the competitions price on my website, I'd scan round and work out my price & just put that on, I never like to see adverts with we're cheaper than they are in. |

The reason why its for free is they get a free 360º virtual tour when they join for a year. I charge less for a years advertising than ALL my rivals and give them a free virtual tour whereas they charge £300 extra for a virtual tour. Thanks for (some) of your answers Dave |

Re: Anyone familiar with advertising rules? kinda photography related
I think the question is not is it legal is it ethical is more to the point. Are you in fact offering some thing free when it is conditional that they buy advertising.
Have you properly assessed the overheads of your operation.if your rivals are so much more expensive Ask yourself why? Downgrading photography is not going to help you or anyone else. |

So really it's not free it's built into the price of advertising, I hate it when they advertise on tv buy your front windows and get back ones FREE

Re: Anyone familiar with advertising rules? kinda photography related
Without trying to stir this up I really don't see what the issue is.
Dave's providing a service package at a better price than his competitors, he may present that package slightly differently than the other organisation but it's still a standard business practice as far as I see it... and the notion that he's taking money away from a professional isn't really fair IMO, he's doing the same job as this other professional so surely it makes Dave a professional in this area aswell? ![]() |
