Auto Numbering

hi, i have a large number of images which i want to rename so they just have consecutive numbers as after deleting and moving the photos they now have jumbled up numbers and i want to sortof 'refresh' it so they all just have consecutive numbers like it would be out of the camera.

is there any way of doing this without going through every one and renaming them individually?

i know that you can use the command prompt to change the extension of multiple files, such as:

'rename *.jpg to *.JPG'

but does anyone know if it is possible to say use a command such as:

'rename *.jpg to #.jpg' where # is a number?

thanks if anyone can help

Re: Auto Numbering

Use PS "File" -> "Automate" -> "Batch" ....you may have to create an "Action" that does nothing , as the batch needs to run it, but otherwise you just choose the input folder & then a diff outpur folder & use the number sequence option.

Have a play with just a few images to see what it does

Re: Auto Numbering

If you are using XP select the files you want to rename and right click on the first file in the group then click Rename. Type the new filename in the following format; filename (1).ext, ie, beach (1).jpg

Hope that helps.

Ian

[Edit] Sorry just re read your question and you just wanted the number changing, not the file name. Sorry

Re: Auto Numbering

If you have a look in our Downloads and Links section there is a handy little applet called CKRename - it should do evrything you need.
