B&W film processing and scanning service

Anyone got any experience of this? I'm looking for a reliable place that can process FP4 and HP5 and make medium res scans as a package deal. So far, I've found Pyramid in Edinburgh and Spectrum in Hove. If you've used either, comments would be gratefully received (you can send me a private message if you're worried about the libel laws )

Re: B&W film processing and scanning service

I used to use a place in Hitchin. I can't remember their name for the moment, or know if they are still in business. I'll have a look.

Have you considered DIY? A developing tank, changing bag + some dev and fixer won't cost much, and I just happen to know someone who is selling a good scanner.

Re: B&W film processing and scanning service

Thanks, Dabs.

There's no problem with my doing it myself, if I can't dev and scan a film after 40 years, well....

My problem is time. What with working away and needing to get a few hours excercise every week and then spending so much time taking (digital) pictures, well, finding the three hours or so to dev and scan a film isn't easy.

I did think about something like the Canon 9950F or the Epson 4870 but neither seems able to do an entire 36 exposures on one pass, so I'd have to do more than just insert the film and hit the button.

If anyone has other ideas along those lines, though, I'm very willing to listen.

Fair comment - thought you were more than able.

Can't find the details of the place I used to use. It was a long time ago, they may have closed or re-located. I think I've still got some of their stuff stowed away somewhere - I'll keep looking. If I can get the company name it should be easy to track them down.

I used them becuase they could do MF film.
