Re: bag query...

I'm afraid I was in danger of joining the ranks of Silkstone in the 'camera-bag-addiction' department! But I have tried keep a lid on this compulsion to buy bags galore

My main bags are now:

Lowepro Slingshot 200 - holds pretty much everything I have (bar tripod) and is comfortable/easy to use.

Crumpler Pretty Boy XL 4000 - as a multi-purpose bag and for mainly when I want to go walking with 'just' the body and the choice of the 70-300mm and a smaller lens.

Lowepro Mini TLZ - for when I just want the body/small lens.

I have others... but these are the ones that actually get used

Re: bag query...

Just out of interest where did you get the Crumpler? I've seen Ali's and thought it was great and have been trying to find the cheapest source of them on the net.

Re: bag query...

Crumpler are great bags and I love mine, but the range is daunting. Also they have different names for the same bag so even if you identify the bag you want in a bricks a mortar shop finding the same bag on line is tricky.

Re: bag query...

Angela I got mine from Surrey Photography - they have a normal online shop, and also an Ebay shop (Surrey Photographic Supplies). I got mine via their Ebay, slightly cheaper than buying direct.

Re: bag query...

If I can make yet another suggestion..
I have one main bag that I keep my gear in while it's not in use. It's a rather large backpack. Fits my Rebel XT with BG, 75-300mm, 28-75mm, 18-55mm, 135mm, 50mm, 430EX with Lambency diffuser, and a major assortment of filters, gray cards, manuals, etc. Then, I have a smaller bag that (if I really cram stuff) can fit the 75-300, 28-75, 18-55, XT with grip, and the 430EX (w/out the diffuser).

Essentially, I have a small travel bag for basic day to day use, and I have a single main storage bag for trips where I want to actually have all of my gear. Since the majority of shoots only involve a limited lens/flash/accessory combination, you should plan your first bag based on that. Whatever you decide on should work well, but don't feel tied in with whatever you buy. You can always upgrade/downgrade to a different bag.
