BBC's nature photo competition judge admits: Winner photo investigated due to fraud allegations — Suomen Luonto

I love the image. I personally don't care if the animal is wild or tame - except in the context of the competition.

If he does turn out to be a fraud then for me, it takes nothing at all from the photo or his skills as a photographer. Sadly the mans standing as a human being is more open to question.

I can't stand cheaters.

I too dislike cheats intensely. However I also have reservations that that picture should have won. I appreciate that there is plenty of skill involved with setting up a remote camera to trigger at a particular time and focus, exposure etc etc etc all play a big part but for me, there's something missing i.e. the photographer. There's a huge portion of luck in getting a picture like that and to me, it takes something away from it.

I thought it was a set up right from the start, if it is not wild then it don't count, the photographer has cheated. It has happened before with an owl somebody spotted that the eyes were not the right colour it turned out that the owl was a stuffed version!.... I cant remember what competition it was but the picture was in all the photo press..... Football players cheat as well but they get away with it!

Re: BBC's nature photo competition judge admits: Winner photo investigated due to fra

I enter quite a lot of competitions and the rules are always strict for nature/natural history and usually even stricter than this BBC competition. I rarely enter these categories because I do not take many genuine natural history shots. In our Club Annual competiton this year I noticed that several "natural history" shots were in the open sections and the photographers explained that this was because the subjects were photographed in a zoo or captivity (thus they were quite right to place them in a different category).

It does seem reasonable to me that Nature and Photojournalism have to represent the truth as we are free to do anything we like in other categories.

I think that cheating is very rare in photographic competitions but submitting another person's photograph as your own is probably the worst case.

I don't think we know yet whether or not he's cheated for a fact. Granted it doesn't look good but we've only seen small crops of the images, And I doubt many of us are really experts in recognising wolves - at least I'm not - they look like a big dugs to me

Theres nothing wrong with the image its good, its just the fact there are rules to this competition and every person who enters should Know what they are, and people are right we dont know yet if this was a set up with a tame wolf..time will tell...

Re: BBC's nature photo competition judge admits: Winner photo investigated due to fra

Its a great image, but I agree that something is wrong when the picture is remotely taken. If it is a wild animal, the use of a flash would have caused it distress, which is unacceptable (this was my initial thought when I first saw the picture, and did not know about the controversy).
