Best date for shooting Autumn foliage in South West UK ?

OK, I'm looking for best date for shooting at Westonbirt Arboretum. The link below shows current colours, but I have no idea how quickly this will turn to the best colours, before the lot drop off

Forestry Commission - Autumn

Anyone with advice ..... anyone want to meet up for a shoot & a pint I can do Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays ............. I assume Friday will be best for shooting, as hopefully less people wandering round the place.

Well, this I see was taken 17 October 2005. We bumped into John Craven and his Newsround (but left quickly!) but then saw a fellow Pixalo member who was taking pics for Westonbirt (so we chatted to him!)

I don't think Dave has a time machine to go back two years

Will the much reported global warming not put the date back a little this year?

Ummm, was attempting to show that the colour lasted into middle of October (amazingly enough it's about the same period and timescale every year!)

Nah, but regular seasonal weather factors have a much greater effect (still!)

The biggest factor that affects the longevity of the lovely leaf colour is wind. Get some autumnal storms (which are worse in recent years - probably due to global warming!) and the leaves get stripped off the trees!

You'll notice that Westonbirt put up their prices at the beginning of October - because so many more people go to see the trees then!

Sounds like a good idea. Friday is good but need to check first.
I'll be at the Camera Club on Thursday.

They have in previous years but I haven't heard anything yet. Perhaps we should start the ball rolling.

Re: Best date for shooting Autumn foliage in South West UK ?

Normally it can be anytime last two weeks October. But they are not sure this year. Lots of the trees are starting to move now some have not started at all.

I am shooting a wedding there on Saturday so will try and find out.

Must admit that as I have run trips over there for the last 5 years I was thinking on not going. But I have heard that the Fungus is looking good this year. So a field trip with you lot and anyone from the club could be on.

I must admit my main target this year is Stourhead. I have promised to do this place for year but never get round to it.

Report back soon.

Paul

I would certainly be interested in Fungi Paul. The problem is that I cannot seem to find the brightly coloured fungi. Am I looking in the wrong places?

Sounds like a great idea, except for me it would be slightly cheaper as I only need to fly from Germany...any offers?

Dear Mr Mono, I think I must have missed something here, are you saying that you're moving to colour photography?

Or is this just to shoot the trees in B&W infrared?!!!
