Question Black & white backgrounds.

Ive always wondered how to do this but never done it, am wanting to take a pic of a dog say & set it on a white or black background, whats the quick & easy way to do this in PS?Thanx for any tips, Simpbow.

Would be better to do it in real life, like putting a black card behind. Harder with dogs of course, but with people & still life, I just use a piece of A1 card, black on one side, white on the other. Works a treat

Caption to pic: Things really weren't working out with the new assistant, Jack, who never seemed to be able to position the piece of card properly



Firstly, Jack owes me 20 minutes of my life back (for doing this). Created black layer and then used a combo of paintbrush (to paint it in) and eraser (to remove it) at different hardness and opacity settings. Probably would use the select tool if I did this for real - but I never will as all my pet portraits are done against suitable natural backdrops (dislike studio type shots)

I thought he meant in a studio type setting....what's the point of a black background if it's got grass in it!?

Now if you want an all black background you can do this incamera,
you simply leave the lenscap on.............
