Blue tone image?

Hey,
I am new at photography. I would like to take some pictures on vacation next week and I was wondering how do you get a blue tone picture? It is like a Sepia or black and white, just a blue tone to it? Anybody got any ideas? It the processing of the pictures or a filter lens? Thanks.

Welcome to Pixalo Keuroglian

Personally, I'd always do stuff like this in post processing rather than using a filter or tweaking the white balance on the camera. That way you have an untouched original to work with and the option to produce a normal picture.

You can apply a blue tint with an editing program. If you do it on a seperate layer you will be able to vary the degreee of tint applied.

Re: Blue tone image?

I was going to do a mini Tutorial for you, but Peels Tutorial is very well done and explained, I'm sure that answers your question.

The Gimp is free and very good, but has a bit of a learning curve.

Re: Blue tone image?

There are some users on here, some tutorials on the Gimp web site, and other tutorials dotted about the inernet.

Not a user myself, so can't help.

Re: Blue tone image?

You could also try something like Paint.net

Paint.NET - Free Software for Digital Photo Editing

Googles Picasa will also do the job in a relatively straightforward fashion.

Both free and rather easier to use than the Gimp.
