Re: Bokeh

Depends on your interpretation of Bokeh - some take it to mean any Out Of Focus areas, others (myself included) to be OOF specular highlights. Whichever, just open your lens as wide as it'll go, focus on something in the foreground and allow the background to be thrown out of focus. The wider you can go and the longer the lens and the closer you can get to the subject, the more OOF components

Here's one from a couple of days ago (and I'd call Bokeh the OOF specular highlights behind) - 500mm @ f/6.3

7D, Sigma 150-500

Re: Bokeh

As Mark said, there are a lot of things that will affect bokeh. The lens aperture, the focal length of the lens and the distance to your subject. It will help if you can fill in some of this detail

As your profession is "Freelance Photographer" I thought you would have an inkling.

Re: Bokeh

I don't think you photograph bokeh.
Your subject appears in front of the bokeh, in isolation.
It's a fortunate by-product from some high quality lenses.

Re: Bokeh

I suppose he hasn't said he didn't
Know how to get bokeh just he couldn't get it right.

I have tried but tend to get it by accident.
I didn't relies bokeh had to be the subject. I have take
Some with bokeh behind.

Re: Bokeh

Thanks to your responses, guys. I'm a newbie in photography so I'm still starting to grasp all the technical terms and the whole concept of it. @Markus, big thanks to the insights man. I'll try out those tips.

right, 'bokeh' really is a matter of optics, some lenses are known for their ability to isolate the subject and create a really soft background,. typically 'fast' lenses are the ones which allow more subject isolation / better bokeh

slower lenses can work as well with longer focal lengths and a large relative difference between subject and background will help
