Calendar Printing (CEWE) - use CMYK or RGB?

Hi folks,

I'm creating a calendar using Cewe's software.

I thought if I was sending images to print it was best to convert to CMYK colour space first. I therefore saved the RGB TIFF images out from CS3 as 8 bit TIFFS with CMYK colour space.

They now look terrible in the CEWE software (weird colour casts).

Am I missing something - should I just save them out as RGB TIFFS into the CEWE software instead?

New to this and confused

BTW - monitor is a Vewsonic VP211b calibrated with a Spyder 3 Pro...all looks well in CS3.

Any advice appreciated!

Cheers

BigLad.

I'm not familiar with CEWE, but generally you should save as RGB unless you're outputting colour separations for litho printing etc.

Re: Calendar Printing (CEWE) - use CMYK or RGB?

Very few printing services require customers to convert to CMYK.

Thanks Dave.

I'm new to this whole thing and read in some article that you should convert to CMYK prior to sending to print, hence my error. I think I'm at that point where I have just information to start really confusing myself !

Cheers

Re: Calendar Printing (CEWE) - use CMYK or RGB?

The litho printing process (which magazines use) requires 4 plates, Yellow, magenta, cyan and black (K for key). Most printers can/will convert inhouse to give CMYK for the plates when assembling films.
