Camera battery grip

I have a 450d and looking to buy a battery grip. I see on ebay a lot cheaper options to Canons own brand.
Does anyone have any useful reviews or comments about some other Canon fit grips?

Thanks

Re: Camera battery grip

There are several members who have bought grips from e-bay and have posted good reports.

Mark says that the Canon grip was not as good quality as the third party one he had

Re: Camera battery grip

I've seen a number of Genuine Canon ones posted about recently where the gears that screw the grip to the camera have stripped, even on a brand new Canon one.

Most of the cheap ones have metal gears so don't strip. Save your money and get a cheap one. They are just as good as Canon own brand.

Re: Camera battery grip

I bought a 3rd party grip for my 40D from eBay. Only criticism is that it doesn't have a thumb wheel next to the second shutter release which is really annoying but as I have never had a Canon one I don't know if mine is missing one because it is cheap or if they all do without. Either way I would look carefully at what you are buying just to make sure that you get what you expect.

Aside from the annoying missing wheel I have got on fine with the grip. It came with two spare batteries and an insert that allows me to run the camera from AA batteries as well if I need to (which has proved useful on occasion). And at around 1/3 of the cost for a Canon one there wasn't much of an argument really.

Re: Camera battery grip

Yeah I thought it was the case that mine was just too cheap to include it. I use that second wheel a lot on my 1Ds and not having it there on the 40D is a real pain.

Definitely something to make sure you include whether you go original or clone.
