Canon 30D to 7D

Hi all , been doing a lot of motocross photo's with my canon 30D with a lot of joy .
Had some good photo's over the time i have been using it.
I thought i would upgrade up to a Canon 7D as reading up on it a lot of poeple have said it is good for sport.
Got to say to me it is not easy to use , all the setting are not the same , and i am no expert , can you get dvd's on how to use the 7D , or any help would be lovely

Re: Canon 30D to 7D

Hiya I have just upgraded to the 7D too and I know what you mean, it's a steep learning curve. One of my camera club mates has just switched as well and I know he has a DVD. I'll ask where he got it

Welcome to Pixalo Dozysod ()

We have quite a few members who use the 7D, so if you could be a little more specific, I'm sure that they will be able to help

It will probably be easier if you broke your questions down into individual issues rather than putting them all in one post. It will make it easier for members to help.

Re: Canon 30D to 7D

I got my 7D back it May upgrading from a 500D and that was a learning curve. After a month I was tempted to go back and borrowed my 500D back, I picked it up and put it down again it was a bit like going back to a Nokia after an iPhone.

I would recommend David Busch's book Canon EOS 7D (£14 ish on Amazon) it covers a lot more than the manual and I still refer back to it. The other thing to do is take loads of photos, I have just gone past 3500 and feel I am getting the hang of it.

The focus points was a bit of a job to learn but I now stick with single point for everything including my dogs running and expansion for bigger moving things. There are a couple of inner menus that allow you to slow down or speed up AF which I played with and made a difference but it would be best to set these to your shooting style needs.

It seems more, light sensitive so I tend to move the EV quite a bit or the ISO.

Re: Canon 30D to 7D

I feel your pain, I upgraded from the 20D "Which I still use", to a 1D and the fastest way to grip the workings is to use your focus tracking servo mode. 7D is simular to mine in that it has surounding points to help keep you in the movement of your camera. I just left it there changing my points around center and shooting lots of pictures. Now I feel better and use my presets to change between single which I use alot. Using all the focus points you can is really a nice way to have some fun. Good luck and enjoy your new camera.
