Hi All,

I bought my Canon 5d Back in May and was told I would recieve £200 cashback from Canon. I have filled in all the forms and sent away my barcode etc but still no contact from Canon. I have now sent various emails and called but still nothing. Has anyone else had issues from them or does anyone know where I can complain now!!

I have also contacted Jessops, but they say the cashback is nothing to do with them, so they cannot help. (even although they advertise it!!)

Just as a heads up, you MIGHT be able to force action out of Jessops if, as I think they may have done, they advertised as follows:

'Canon 5D, Special offer: £1599*

*Using Canon cashback offer £200, you pay £1799'

Because Jessops advertised it for sale at the lower price, they are duty bound by law to ensure you are able to buy it for that price. If however they advertised it as follows:

'Canon 5D, Special offer: £1799 plus cashback from Canon of £200 available via voucher redemption'

then you cannot force them to help as they advertised it at the full price. If they refuse to help, the act to quote is the 'Sale of Goods Act - Point of Sale Advertising'.

You should most certainly have heard from Canon by now, I have twice taken advantage of their cashback offers and in both cases I got a cheque within 4-6 weeks. Jessops have gained by advertising the camera for sale at £1599 so they are forced to help you by approaching Canon on your behalf if there is a problem. However, to do that, you will need to provide them with copies of receipts, letters sent to Canon, dates, etc. That is the area which a lot of people fall down on as they usually send these things off without keeping recorded copies for proof in any dispute.

I wish you well in contacting Canon UK direct. The problems will come if they say 'We have not received this claim' and you have no way of proving you have sent it and things. I'm afraid that would then leave you in a position where you could lose out. Canon however have usually been helpful when helping me solve issues so I am keeping everything crossed that they will be with you.

Cheers for the help guys, Bit of a mix up at Canons end. It did'nt help that I moved house anyway cash is in the bank. The head office people were very helpful!

I have read of several small issues with the Canon cash back schemes but without fail Canon has always been helpful at resolving the enquiries. I guess when you consider the amount of people that take advantage of these offers you can expect a few hiccups along the way.

So what are you going to spend the cash back on?
