Canvas Prints

I WANT TO DO FOUR CANVAS PRINTS A3 SIZE ISH , IS IT WORTH ME DOING THEM
MYSELF, OR IS IT BEST TO GET A PRINT SHOP TO DO THEM.

I DON'T KNOW YET WHAT THE COST OF DOING THEM MYSELF WOULD BE,ALSO THE COST OF MESSING THEM UP. SO WOULD IT BE CHEAPER AND LESS HASSLE TO GET THEM DONE AT A PRINT SHOP .

Re: Canvas Prints

As a relative newcomer I would get these done at a print shop and have them stretch them onto the wooden frame for you. In my experience with these, any problems with the frame can alter the shape of the image, and it seems at step too far to 'do-it-yourself' Ps. you should know that my DIY skills are so bad that my wife is going on a course to get things done!!

Re: Canvas Prints

Woody - do you mean by 'canvas', a canvas finished 'paper', or a canvas stretched over a wooden frame?

The former is probably o go-er if you have the right sort of printer, the latter is, I think, best left to a print service.

Re: Canvas Prints

NOT SURE WHETHER I WANT CANVAS ON A WOODEN FRAME, ESPECIALLY AT 100
EACH, OR IS THERE A CANVAS LOOK PAPER I COULD USE. MAKING THE FRAMES NOT
A PROBLEM, AS I AM A TIME SERVED CARPENTER / JOINER.

Re: Canvas Prints

Woody

Having looked into this myself as i'm a carpenter too, firstly the frames are relatively easy to make you can buy ready prepared stretcher bars and its just a case of assembling the frame. At the moment i haven't actually tried this as my printer doesn't allow printing on to canvas but i have stretch similar material onto frames for my job and there's definately a knack to it. I've seen two methods of making frames one is a fixed/rigid frame which would require you to be a little experienced at attaching the canvas, the other type of frame is where the frame isn't fixed but allows a small amount of tightening by way of wedges in each corner, that way is a little my forgiving in that if you hadn't stretched the canvas tight enough you could expand the frame slightly to take up any slack. However getting the canvas tight enough without damaging the print and/or cracking the corners can be troublesum, theres also getting the folds right on each corner too. Lots to think of there Woody but if your determined i'm sure it'll be an exciting project.

There's lots of companies out there Woody but for me Prices / Sizes - CatchinColour Premier Digital Art Supplier these are by far the cheapest i've seen and very good quality, i recently sold a photograph of mine on canvas (2ft x 4ft) and got it for 84 delivered with a protective coating on which allowed me to make a decent profit , a quick look at A3 would be in the region of 45. I've ordered 3 canvases off them to date and have been more than happy with all 3. They will also provide you with your work unstretched just rolled for you to put on a frame yourself, not sure on prices on that though.

Just checked this place Canvas prints and Photos onto canvas from £10 by Canvas Dezign and they are 28 quid for an A3 (not 100), wooden framed incl. Haven't used them but it isn't as expensive as you thought Summer.

Re: Canvas Prints

STUPOT, THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR DETAILED INFO, AS I CAN ONLY USE POWER
TOOLS NOW AND LOADS AND LOADS OF CLAMPS CRAMPS AND JIGS THAT I HAVE MADE,
I CAN USE A HAMMER AND CHISEL BUT NOT BOTH AT THE SAME TIME IT MIGHT
PROVE DIFFICULT WHEN IT COMES TO STRETCHING THE CANVAS ON TO THE FRAME,AS
YOU SAY NOT THE EASIEST OF OPERATIONS, UNLESS I MADE SOME SORT OF JIG.

AS MUCH AS I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A GO AT IT MYSELF, I THINK I WILL LOOK AT THE
LINK YOU HAVE PUT IN. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR HELP.

LES, THANK YOU FOR THE INFO FOR PRICES AND THE LINK, I WILL CERTAINLY HAVE A
LOOK. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR HELP.
