CF - Image copy problem
I don't know if this is a photography or PC problem but I'll start here. Yesterday I took about 50 shots - the first 25 or so copied from the CF card, no problem. The next 25 or so will not copy/paste and I get the following error message.
"Cannot copy IMG_2061 - the parameter is incorrect" With the good files I can see the thumbnail, with the others it's just a black square. Some programs will freeze on trying to view that image. Afterwards I immediately tested the camera with the same CF card and had the expected normal results. I don't want to format the CF card just yet in case the images are salvagable. Any experience of this or help gratefully received. TIA. |

Re: CF - Image copy problem
Have you tried copy and pasting on a picture by picture basis, i recently had a problem transfering a load of music files from one hard drive to another and i had problems transfering a certain folder, i went in and transfered them file by file until i was left the a handful of corupted files.

Re: CF - Image copy problem
yes - I managed to save two on a shot by shot basis but the others just don't want to play ball.

Re: CF - Image copy problem
It does sounds as if the card may have gone corrupt.
If all else fails, I have a spare mini-CD with SanDisk RescuePro software that I can send you if you PM your address. |

Re: CF - Image copy problem
This kind of thing tends to happen when you delete pictures from your card a lot. When I have off-loaded pictures i ALWAYS reformat the card, never just delete them.
If these pictures are causing a problem, a rescue disk such as that offered by SIlkstone might well help. Once you have got them off, i suggest you format the card and then run off a load of test shots. Try copying those across and see if they copy without problem. If they do, it is worth always formatting in future. When i get a problem like this, i often find that deleting just the image showing as a parameter problem allows all the others to copy without a problem but it sounds like this isn't happening here. it is definitely worth checking with another computer if you have one handy like a laptop to see if they copy across to that. It is by no means unusual for it to fail on one but work on another. Another thing that sometimes causes problems is the size of the card. Some card readers don't work so well with large cards. I have a built in card reader that absolutely refuses to work with my 4gb card yet it works fine with smaller cards. I use a USB card reader instead and this one works fine. I hope you get the problem solved without losing any important images ![]() Cheers, Rob

Re: CF - Image copy problem
I recently had cause to search for file recovery software on Google, and was surprised just how many apps were around. Several of them were specific to flash cards, so it might be worth doing that. I was looking to recover from an HDD, so can't remember the names of the ones I found that were for cards.

Re: CF - Image copy problem
Problem solved (sort of) but first off - Steve, thanks for the link but.....I do not like PC Inspector, could not get it to save anything.
Silkstone, many thanks for the generous offer and to all others who replied. Well, the problem was with my work PC. So I've just got home and thought I would try with my home PC. The CF card copied and pasted all images, just as normal, quick as a flash. I can only assume the card reader in my work PC is kaput. Anyway, since I've got my images I may put a few up when I've had a good look. Thanks again all |

Re: CF - Image copy problem
I think it could well be the card reader as I mentioned before. It might be that it is not liking a larger card but I also find with my nuilt in reader that it is fine with jpgs but won't work with raw files. Given that i use entirely raw files these days, it is somewhat useless so I have an external one that cost under a tenner and works a treat.
Glad you are all sorted now Stepheno.... now show us the colour of your wares ![]() Cheers, Rob |
