Change or clean your focussing screen

After having paid someone to clean behind the focusing screen on my 5D I Googled a bit and found this brief video from Canon. Next time I shall do it myself

Re: Change or clean your focussing screen

Very useful.

Looks as if you could make something to unhook the screen if you didn't have the tool, and then use plastic tweezers. Wish I'd have seen that a week or two ago.

Is yours OK now BTW?

Re: Change or clean your focussing screen

Just the same as I used to do on my OM1 and OM2 some 30 years ago. Some things never change

Re: Change or clean your focussing screen

Nikon have the same with there replacement focussing screens. I changed both on my D2H & D2Hs (when I shot Nikon). Always found it fiddly and difficult to keep the dust out though.

I know it don't mention the canon 400D but i was wondering whether you can change
The focusing screen on them. Just like the focusing rings, you see through the eyepiece that is in my old film camera.

Re: Change or clean your focussing screen

No, 'fraid not - not easily anyway. You can't on the 30D either. It's only the 40D, 5D and 1D series that have replaceable screens.

Having said that, I think someone makes alternative screens for the other Canons, but it isn't so easy to replace them - you have to remove a metal clip that goes around the screen.

Re: Change or clean your focussing screen

I believe it's 'Katz Eye Optics' that produce a replacement screen for the 400D.
