Question Choice of filters.

I always try to get it right in camera, not that it happens alot when filtering rather than using PS, i was just wanting to know is there a vast difference between using/having Cokin P series which i have & the Lee filter system, i know there's a difference in price between the 2 but is there that much of a difference?

Re: Choice of filters.

I recently bought a set of Lee filters, I've not used them enough to produce any pics, (not had time to go out) but, rather than buy a set that I could afford straight away for example Cokin I saved a bit longer and went for the better ones...Lee. According to most folk they blow Cokin out of the water in terms of quality. I've never seen the sense in buying a poorer quality item cheaply then spending more later to buy the same item of better quality. I'd rather wait and save and buy the better first time round...anyways I'm rambling, it's late.

As I said I have not had a chance to use them of late but Orangepeel has taken some cracking shots using Lees and it was him that convinced me to taks another hit on my Mastercard He posted a couple of links showing the difference between a Cokin and Lee nd grad ---> Clicky Here Post 5

Re: Choice of filters.

I use the Cokin P series, and find them very usable. Not having had any Lee's then I can't really compare. I do wonder if in fact, more comparable to the Cokin Z series, both in terms of size and maybe quality/price.

Re: Choice of filters.

I use Cokin P filters and unfortunately i've gotten a colour cast on all the images i've taken with them. This has kind of worked out well in an experimental type of way, as in the effects produced have been pretty cool (in conjuction with some experimental custom white balance settings) but for true neutral density, if that is the particular type of filter your talking about, then the P filters don't cut it. I've also owned the A size filters, GNDs and NDs and its the same for them so I think it's an actual issue with the brand. I havent tried Lees so can't say anything about them but they seem to be highly recommended from other photogs I know, along with Singh Rays.

Re: Choice of filters.

I've seen it written that some Cokins suffer from casts and I've been told by someone who ought to know it is because they quality control by dip sampling from the batches of filters, where the more expensive brands check every one.

I use Hi-Tec as an inexpensive reasonable quality filter for ND's and grads.
