Re: Compatible inks

The only time I have ever used compatible inks it was a disaster. They blocked up, wouldn't print properly...I've stuck to label brands since then!

Re: Compatible inks

Hi,

I used compatible inks a couple of times with my old epson printer, I tried 2 different makes of compatibles both with the same outcome. some of the nozzles would block so prints came out with colours all over the place, you would waste most of the ink cleaning print heads and doing nozzle checks. false economy for pictures! best to stick with the companys own inks, plus the colours in your prints will be as they should be.

Take care
John

So how do your prints compare to using 'brand' inks Fiona?.And you obviously don't have the blocked nozzle problems either?.

Re: Compatible inks

nope my nozzles dont block and when i first started using them i compared the prints with the prints using canon inks and guess what............ NO difference. My one problem is a green colour cast BUT thats down to the paper as I get it on some papers and not on others.

My printer uses 8 inks and at 8.99 each and i simply cant afford to pay the price, i also have great difficulty getting the green and the red, even had an arguement in a shop with the guy who worked there as he said there wasnt a printer that did an actual green! lol

Re: Compatible inks

I have a set of ThInk cartridges (from Choice Stationery) for my Canon i9950 but I haven't installed them yet. They're about a third of the price of the Canon cartridges and were recommended by a few people.

The price of OEM ink is scandalous - it costs more than vintage champagne (not that I know much about that!) - and the printer manufacturers have been trying very hard to stop the third-party suppliers. The chipped cartridges are even worse because sometimes they say they're empty when they're not. And then the blasted thing wastes half the ink in cleaning cycles, including when you fit a new cartridge.

Don't get me started on ink prices.... Er, oh... I already have.

Re: Compatible inks

Silkstone,

One of the inks that I tried was the Think brand from Choice Stationery Supplies, OK when first installed but soon got the blocked nozzle problems, then wasted most of the ink trying to unblock them, maybe you would be ok if you printed something every day to try to keep the nozzles clear.
You don't seem to get this problem with the branded inks..

I think I'm going to use my printer [Epson 870] till it gives up the ghost and just go 'out of house' after that.I don't print a lot and prices seem to be as cheap as can be done at home.Plus I am not able to print very good mono on the 870.

Re: Compatible inks

I've tried the cheaper inks and wont be doing it again. I tried with an older epson R300 and suffered blocked jets & colour casts. I then purchased the Canon i9950 with similar problems and blocked the heads permanently (no amount of cleaning even taken the head out and soaking would unblock), also prints fade much quicker even on good paper!.....I've since bought the Epson R1800 and only use Epson inks.
It depends on what you want & printer you are using at the end of the day......If your printer does good prints and you want the print to last buy genuine inks IMHO.

Maybe you will be lucky....all I know is it was about the 2nd or 3rd change of cheap carts, I went away for a fortnight and came back ready to print some stuff to find a jet blocked. On running the cleaning prog a second jet blocked......I searched the web and read loads of problems and some sugestions of taking the head out and leaving to soak for some time but to no avail. I do know though, that prints fade much much quicker than with genuine inks.....it happened to me!

Re: Compatible inks

I have been using OCP gmbH inks Manufactured in Germany, in my single tanks HP printer with auto resettable chips via the CISS system.
Available in large and small quantities (100ml Bottles) from Promax Imaging Ltd,Uttoxeter Rd, Upper Teal, Staffs.
Have a look at the OCP inks web site via Google and have a look at some of the technical and quality control that goes into the manufacture of their inks.
I don't think you will disappointed with the results.
Regards Brian

Price of OCP inks from Promax Imaging ltd is £ 22 for Six 100 ml bottlesof each colour. Yellow,Cyan,Magenta,Cyan light & Magenta light. You can get a set that includes black if required. By the way all OCP inks are certificated and a copy is supplied with your order.

Unless you are using a lot of ink then I would recommend sticking to the low quantity OEM cartridges because the shelf life of all OEM & other inks is limited to about 18 months -2years.

I've used compatible inks in my Epson once - no blockages but a marked difference in quality/colour so I reverted back to using original inks only.

I also only use Epson (or Ilford) paper.

Re: Compatible inks

I use PrinterInks.com for my cartridges (as has been mentioned by Fiona) and have not had a blocked heads problem at all in 2 and a half years.

This company offers a 100% accuracy guarantee, offering the exact same colours and longevity as the OEm versions with a no quibble money back guarantee. They are lightning fast and the price includes postage plus you get 3 for 2 for Epson, Canon and HP.

I print onto Ilford Smooth Pearl which gives a rich lustrous finish and is very good at resisting fading. The results I get are every bit as good as the Canon inks but at a massive saving. If people can afford to pay out £8.99 each for eight cartridges (just under £72 a set) then they can go right ahead but I sure can't, esepcially given the speed I go through cartridges!

I printed some stuff out when I got back from my Lakes holiday and did a print without a cleaning cycle after the machine had been switched off for 11 days. It was perfect first time. I have done the same after a two week holiday. Not denying I give the occasional head clean but then I did the same with original inks as well so that is just normal.

I have tried other cheaper inks and had problems so I am not suggesting all compats are good, they definitely aren't. But this company are extremely good.

Cheers,
Rob

Re: Compatible inks

Rob , I Have Just Looked At Printerinks Website.
They Say That With Canon Compatible Cartridges You Have To Transfer The
Chip From The Original Cartridge. Is This Easy To Do, Also Does It Do
Any Damage To The Chip. Thanks

PS DO YOU HAVE TO LEAVE CANON PRINTERS SWITCHED ON ?
