Re: composit images

You should be able to put 4 different images on either of the contact sheet or picture package.

Re: composit images

I'm puzzled - if you have a picture 10x8 and superimpose 4 images each 5x4 then you won't see the 10x8 picture Why not just insert the 4 images on a 10x8 canvas?

If you want to superimpose 4 pictures onto another picture, Stephano is correct. 4 5x4 images will completely fill the 10x8 background leaving nothing visible. If you are not going to print this out why must it be 10x8?

You have not completed the action that I described to make a contact sheet. You have to go to the file menu, select automate and then select contact sheet.

It is easier if you put your four images in a folder and then specify this folder in the contact sheet set up. If you have more than four images and they are all in the same folder you can just specify that folder and PS will make as many cotact sheets as are needed for all of the pictures.

However, doing this will not allow the background to be visible. If you want to superimpose images onto another image so that the background image is still visible through the smaller pictures it will be very difficult. If you want to just paste the smaller pictures onto the bigger picture you will have to make them small enough so that the bigger picture still shows - but in your original post you said you wanted 4 5x4 on a 10x8 background. That will not allow any of the background to show through as Stephen and Fiona said.

To do this all you have to do is to open your background image at the size you want, then also open the others, resize them and then just drag them onto the background image. When you have done all 4 just save the result.

Re: composit images

Hi Graham
this is what i get when i click on automate - in adobe photoshop cs5 64bit
batch
create droplet
crop and straighten photos
conditional mode change
fit image
lens correction
merge to hdr pro
photomerge
went into photomerge put 4 picture numbers in click ok a picture came up with just two on it and the back ground looked as if was in the layers place ?
so i will try the other method you sergested .

Re: composit images

Sorry Tigerbarb - I'm on CS3. I guess that they have moved the contact sheet somewhere else.

I've just Googled it and apparently the contact sheet is now in bridge

Adobe Photoshop * Create a contact sheet (CS5)

It seems that you can download the older contact sheet plug-in according to the second section in the web page. I'd look at bridge first though as chances are that it is better.

Mind you, just dragging the re-sized images onto your background sheet with the move tool should be easy enough in CS5

Re: composit images

Well I did exactly this just a few days ago. I just opened all five photographs in Photoshop (I now use CS6 but it would be the same in earlier versions). Ensure that the base image is displayed then you may find it useful to select the rulers from the View Menu and drag a horizontal and a vertical guide to exactly the middle giving you four equal areas. Next select the Move tool and click on one of the four images. Use your mouse and the left button to drag the image onto the base image. It will almost certainly be too large. Choose Edit>transform>scale. You can now drag the corners or sides to resize to fit the space moving it to one corner. Remember to double click or click accept once you have resized and repositioned. Do the same for the other three images and you will have a 5 layered file in the base image. At this point you can still further adjust the different layers as required. Other things that you may consider for effect is the reduce the saturation on the base image (it is less distracting as a background) and you might consider choosing a layer effect for the four images (I used a bevelled edge with drop shadow). The final thing is Layer>Flatten Image so that you can then choose File>Save As and choose a different file name. Best of Luck.

Dave

Re: composit images

Excellent post Dave Another save option would be to save all of the layers before flattening as a psd file thus allowing further tweaks at a later stage is necessary.

Re: composit images

A good point. I actually did so and the next day noticed a problem with the final flattened image. I decided that one of the four image needed to be flipped horizontally for best effect. I was able to go back the the .psd file make the change and produce an updated flattened image.
