Question Concern on copying pictures

Hopefully someone can put my mind to rest on this subject. While looking at my photo gallery I see there is a print preview. I also saw that I could print out my picture .

Is there a way that that can't happen? I'm all for anyone and everyone looking at the pictures, but I question the ability to print out what ever they want. I was always under the impression that that couldn't happen.

Does anyone else have that concern? I hope I haven't opened a can of worms with this post. As I'm sure a lot of you out there wouldn't like their photo printed out by someone else.

Maybe I should have posted this in the suggestions for Pixalo.

Re: Concern on copying pictures

at the end of the day if someone wanted to print your images it doesnt need a print button on pixalo to do it....... the problem anyone has is that because of the low res and size restrictions on pixalo the print quality would be at the best questionable and to print them off at any decent size the quality would diminish even more. For any images uploaded anywhere on the web make sure they are set to 72 ppi res and a small physical size,

Thanks for the info Fi----Just was wondering. Did you print out one of yours to see how it came out?

Re: Concern on copying pictures

not for a long time, i did it when i first started posting images online...... and trust me a 72 res shot doesnt print out well at anything like a reasonable size.

Hopefully Fi has already done this with her spot on answer Mary, but I'd just like to add that this is partly the reason our photo size limit is set at 1000pix on the longest edge and a file size of no bigger than 200kb here at Pixalo, we feel it strikes the best balance between having members be able to display their images with acceptable quality online, but low enough quality (in printing terms) to make any image almost unusable when printed at a reasonable size.

Re: Concern on copying pictures

1000 pixels on the longest side would give an acceptable print 6" print at around 150dpi; remember - it doesn't matter what dpi you set the file to... all that matters is the pixel width/height. A 900 x 600 pixel image will print just fine at 6 x 4".

If you're paranoid, you should also drop down the .jpg quality level to around 4 or 5and/or add a visible watermark to your images.

Lastly - if you're convinced that your image has commercial (saleable) value, just don't post the damn thing on the web in the first place

Re: Concern on copying pictures

My mind is at ease As for my photos---they don't have any commercial value. I was just surprised that they could print out in such a large size. I expected a much smaller verison.
