Question converting magnification values

im buyig a camcorder soon with a 50x optical zoom, how would you convert that 50x value into a mm value, the same that u use for digital lenses? Just curious, is there like a formula of summit or just a general rule of thumb.
Thanks for your help.

It depends on the sensor size. There's quite a good explanation here...
