D50 battery grip

Hi guys, I would be quite interested in buying a battery grip for my D50, but would kinda like one with a vertical shutter release as well. The only one I found was on eBay shipping from China thta didn't look legit, are there any others?
I am pretty annoyed at Nikon for not producing a battery grip for the D50 at all...

Can anyone elighten me?

Thanks,

Jack M

Re: D50 battery grip

I think I am fairly certain that a D50 battery grip does not have portrait controls. Nikon certainly doesn't make one and, if you still want one, rather than buy Chinese (which apparently are of dubious quality), I would suggest the Hahnel (rebadged Jenis). Here's a link and it's not a bad price - Microglobe.

Re: D50 battery grip

I also have a D50, I have yet to find a grip with shutter release. Hahnel is the best one I have foud to date, please let me know if you find one, in the mean time it's a case keep looking. I'll let you know if I come across such a beast

Re: D50 battery grip

here's one with the vert shutter release...

eBay: Pro Vertica Shutter Battery Hand Grip for Nikon D50 B3E (item 200074414986 end time Feb-06-07 02:00:04 PST)

It's IR so u have to switch to remote mode before using it... unfortunately switching to remote stops the normal shutter release working so it'll be a bit clumsy to use.

Re: D50 battery grip

doesn't the IR remote release also cancel itself after each use,. pretty sure that was the case with the d70?

Re: D50 battery grip

no that really would be annoying. There is however a timeout where if it's not used for a set time (1M, 5m, 10m & 15m) it'll cancel itself.

Re: D50 battery grip

that's good (well better at least) the IR remote on the d70 after you use it to fire the shutter it needs to be put back onto remote again - double whammy really since you can't put a cable release onto it either..

Re: D50 battery grip

one thing to consider - well just an idea,.

it's a bit of a jump - but then again the price is very good for the feature set and it can take a nikon battery grip Camera Price Buster - D80

Re: D50 battery grip

Seems similar to using a small thermonuclear bomb to crack a nut.

To get vert shutter battery grip for a D50 ... buy a D80 instead?
