d80 battery problem.
OK i last used my camera last Sunday to upload a bunch of pictures i took the previous night via the firewire connection. Everything went well.
Now today (Wednesday) I went to look at my camera again and the top panel LCD was totally blank, but the button was left 'on' i forgot to turn it off but i left the battery on 2/3rds charge. OK fair enough i left it on as you do and the battery has run out of juice. So i took it out put it in the charger aaannd.... nothing, nowt, zip. The charge light never came on, i took the battery out, cleaned it, put it in the charger, still nowt. Am i right in assuming the battery is totally dead or is it just run right down and i have to leave it for a bit? I suspect that i left the camera connected to the computer via the firewire for several hours, could that have drained the battery out? I got distracted from the desk and i did come back to remove the camera a few hours later but i didnt look at it then. any suggestions? Its a Nikon EN-EL3e Li-ion 7.4 v 1500mAh battery that came with the camera. Help! ![]() |

Re: d80 battery problem.
If, as is possible but shouldn't happen, the battery goes truly flat then it's a bin job as Li-ion won't recover from being totally empty - which is why they're supplied part charged

Re: d80 battery problem.
As it will not work in the camera or charger it must be the battery that is dead. Just to make sure you could get one of the non Nikon equivalents to try they only cost a few pounds.

Re: d80 battery problem.
I think most rechargeables will not charge if they are allowed to go completely flat. Years ago at work, we used to use torches with NiCd's, and if they went too low they would not accept a charge and had to have the batteries changed.
Begs the question how do the makers get a charge into them in the first instance? I heard that they hit them with a ZAP to get them going, but not a clue as the the voltage/current. |

I let the battery drain all the way and it killed the battery, i bought a new one and it worked fine. Alls well that ends well. |
