Damaged file. Help!

Ok so whats going on here then, Images shot in raw view fine in camera. Load into rse and they look like this, convert to jpg, still look like this. Anybody got any ideas or should I just throw the card away and buy a new one which is what is going to happen anyway as I can't risk this happening too often.

Re: Damaged file. Help!

Can you zoom in on the photo on the camera? If so it suggests that the RAW is readable. Have you tried any other RAW software?

PS3 shows the thumbnail but will not open the file as there is a "problem" dont know if image can be zoomed in on camera as I have now formatted cards after shoot and transfer.

I'm not 100% sure that the camera will actually decode the raw data to show you the preview. I suspect it might use the embedded preview JPG instead, which would explain how the raw info could get damaged without affecting preview...

Either way, I would certainly get another card Gary - like you say it's not worth the risk of using a possibly-dodgy one given they're so cheap nowadays (relative to the value of the data on them!).

Re: Damaged file. Help!

You should try all the different bits of software to do the reading. Try the manufacturer's raw converter and photoshops. Also you should be able to put the pics back on the card and then look at them with the camera. If they appear OK on the camera you may want to try cropping them on the camera, just to get the camera to rewrite them to the card. Good luck.
