Great article Gary !!.
I've seen the crash photo manytimes in the papers, so it's good to know the face, or hair , behind the shot.Did that one shot give you more exposure in the trade, eg. more work ? |

Re: A Day in the Life of a Professional Photographer - Discussion Thread
Very good read
![]() I assume you don't have a regular income from this kind of work then ? Obviously nice earners like this one tide you over for a while, but how do you cope through the lean times ? Hope you don't mind me asking more questions, but of the varied work you do, which do you enjoy most ? Is it the Paps stuff, or more organised shoots ? Thanks again. |

in a brewery, I just love taking photographs. I do a fair bit of landscape stuff and sell as ltd edition prints, The most that 1 went for was £1500.00 at auction, the money went to kidney research . I also do public relations shots and press release stuff, Model portfolios and weddings, The moto gp and wsbk shots sell pretty well too. I gave up worrying about the money aspect of life about a year ago after a near fatal accident and just get on with enjoying my photography, if other people like it well all well and good but if they don't, I don't lose any sleep over it. I also find that jobs seem to come along just when you need one to keep the hounds from the door and me in Beer, |

Re: A Day in the Life of a Professional Photographer - Discussion Thread
No problem, I just put them up on the internet and then optimise the pages, Other sources of sales are places that sell memorabillia, friends, friends of friends, placing a sheet of thumbnails in local bike shops etc,

Funnily enough, it was Gary's article that led me to Pixalo. I came across it on the DIY Photography Blog site.

Re: A Day in the Life of a Professional Photographer - Discussion Thread
Mr Hamed is due for release next week under some sort of tagging scheme.
I got another showing in the Daily Mail today but most of the other papers have gone with shots from PA, Talk about closed shop!!!!! It's getting harder these days on organised stuff to get the shot that sells as PA, and Getty Images seem to have things all wrapped up. Oh well. |

Re: A Day in the Life of a Professional Photographer - Discussion Thread
Gary;
Why not apply to PA/Getty/Rex etc. to see if they're interested in syndicating your work? I've been picked up by two agencies on the back of my recent Edinburgh Film Festival shots and am now getting work sent my way from the agencies, including them applying for accreditation where necessary. There are so many agencies out there today that a freelancer can still make a decent living and not have to worry about calling round the press desks directly - check out BAPLA Online Directory: A-Z list of members to start. |
