Digital Camera Training Course

Can anyone recommend a local provider of training courses as above.

I have found a place in Leicestershire that does courses but I was hoping for something a bit closer.

Re: Digital Camera Training Course

Jason, have you tried contacting you local college?....

Many places of learning (College, university, high schools, etc...) may run evening classes for such things....

Re: Digital Camera Training Course

This subject has come up from time to time. Problems have been that there are such big differences between the tutors that even similar courses can have very different outcomes.

The exremes are that our Angela went on an evening course, but gave up well before the end as it was not delivering what she wanted, and the tutor was not very good. At the other end, Clafra went on a Joe McNally course that he thought was really good - he's reviewed it on here somewhere - Stupot has also done a course that he was very happy with. I think Whipspeed has done a C&G course too.

I think if you want consistancy and a course that will cover the whole range of photography, the C&G route is probably the most reliable. Courses are available from your local colleges. If you want a more specific course on a narrower subject, there are plenty of courses advertised in the photo magazines and on the web. I think it is unlikely you will find a member close to you who has been on a course to give an opinion.

Re: Digital Camera Training Course

You need to decide what topics you are looking for. It might include:-

a. How to take photographs generally
b. How to use the controls and settings on your particular camera
c. General digital photographic skills
d. Basic Image editing
e. Intermediate Image editing
f. Digital Asset management
g. Portrait Photography
h. Landscape Photography
etc.

At my Club we are running courses and workshops, we have one which covers a. another which covers c and d and a third which covers e and f. I think that b is more likely to be provided by the Camera manufacturer, if at all. For g anf h there are several professional photographers offering excellent courses/photoshoots but you will probably need to have covered the rest of the topics first to get the best from this.

Re: Digital Camera Training Course

Just had another thought - prompted by Dave.

A lot of the bigger camera retailers also do courses and workshops. The ones that spring to mind are Calumet, Park Cameras, Digital Depot (not sure if they are still trading),

Here is another thread on this subject

http://www.pixalo.com/community/gene...tml#post277662

Here is one detailing Park Cameras

http://www.pixalo.com/community/news...tml#post276461

I think that the Calumet ones are nationwide at various venues, but some of the others might be more local to where the stores are.

Re: Digital Camera Training Course

Well I've booked one down in Leicestershire in December.

The problem with my local college is that the course is alway full before they release dates. They have apparently taken my name for a waiting list but I have never heard back.

If it is a good course I will let you know.

Re: Digital Camera Training Course

My course has been moved to 14-Nov-09 so fingers crossed it will be worth it.

I really want a camera course not a photoshop course which is a problem I hear with some of the specific college courses. I have spent long hours learning photoshop on video tutorials so don't want to waste even an hour learning some basic PS techniques.

I have tried in vain to get a local HNC course to me but they do not seem to be a popular choice with NW colleges. Most carry non certified 'beginner camera' courses

Re: Digital Camera Training Course

Well I have been to my Camera Course today and I loved it!

The guy who ran it was really inspiring and had some great ideas.

It started with the basics which some of I knew but it did fill in some hole and getting to spend some time with a pro was great.

A couple of shots from the day!
