Do you have a photography anecdote?

I read this elsewhere but, having a 7D & 100-400, I can believe it....

Guy with a Fuji P&S: Nice camera. What x is the zoom?

Me (with 7D and 100-400L): It's a 4x, if you wanna figure it that way.

Guy: Heh,heh...mine's a 24x.

Me: Yeah, it's a nice camera. But can you beat a mugger to death with yours?

Re: Do you have a photography anecdote?

Another 100-400mm from me as well, must be something to do with the lens.

Me in Jessops a few years ago wanting to buy the lens being questioned by the salesman as it might be a bit much for a lady to handle

Andy always says he wishes he'd gone to the shop with me just to see my expression

Re: Do you have a photography anecdote?

I heard this from a friend, who like me, still uses the occasional roll of film:

He was out with a group from his club. They were comparing shots on their LCDs. One of the younger members turned to him and said "Let's see yours, Bob."

"I'm using a film camera", replies my friend.

"That's fair enough, but go on, show us..."

Re: Do you have a photography anecdote?

When I'm photographing, I'm often asked what I'm doing and people want to look at my camera. On one occasion, the effect was surprise that the image on the screen on the back of my camera was in colour. The person obviously thought that cameras that required you to duck under a focusing cloth only worked in black and white!

Re: Do you have a photography anecdote?

My answer to gearheads;"Photography lies between the ears"-the camera is irrelevant-it only records images that are made with the mind and eye- If you know what you are doing, you can achieve DSLR quality images with a simple point and shoot camera For example, this image made with a $90.00 lumix F2 sold for $120.00 just a few weeks ago:

Well, yes, most photographers could get that shot using a compact & a few layers in photoshop.
But, I don't think a compact would really cut the mustard in my field of sports photography, where speed and high ISO performance are what is required. Which is something that compacts with their small sensors, poor high ISO performance and shutter lag just wouldn't work, and probably not weatherproof enough either.
See shot below taken at ISO3200 in pouring rain.
It's horses for courses and sometimes we do need the gear to compliment what is between our ears

Re: Do you have a photography anecdote?

Sorry, should have been more specific: if you know what you're doing, this would include realising the limitations of the point and shoot camera. regards, Ken

Every time I see a statement like this, I find myself asking why the writer feels the need to make it.

Never mind, I'll just get out my pinhole camera, made from a carton of Poseur's Special Veggy muesli. I always load it with a hand made sheet of paper, covered with my own secret variant of Fox Talbot's Silver Iodide, to which I add... well, I did say it was secret. Of course, I do have to get up early on photography days, because it takes a while to harness the ox-cart; I can't be doing with those new-fangled horses. I save time by having my camera support already in the cart - well, it takes so long to get even a small standing stone loaded.

Now, all I need is plenty of sunlight, you've no idea how long it takes to set up and light 50,000 candles...
