Do you struggle to find the time for photography?
I have a fairly busy life it seems at the moment, what with work, martial arts twice a week, running twice a week and most weekends taken up visiting friends or weddings etc. I just never seem to have the time/energy to go out and try some shots.
There are some beautiful locations to try something in Bristol and I'm often struck by thoughts of 'That'd be a good shot' when out on my runs. ![]() I was wondering if it is just myself or do other struggle to find the time to get out and about for photography? PS. Getting quite dishearted at the moment with the number of great shots most people seem to be getting and the lack of stuff I can produce from my back garden.

It sounds like you need a compact to take with you on your runs, and what's wrong with some martial arts shots? Seems like you're pigeon holing your activities a bit there Sammy?

It's a big struggle atmo, long hours at work and what is worse for me, I travel all over the North of Scotland in my work and see fantastic shots all the time but am not allowed to carry a camera

I often go out on my push bike and I've now started to take my mobile phone with me as it has a camera on it, it's just remembering that I've got it with me when I say to myself "that would make a good photo"
If you've got a mobile phone with a camera built in try to take it with you when you go out for a run and when you're at your martial arts evenings. Just a thought.... |

It varies. Living in the country I tend to find plenty of potential subjects within a hundred yards of the house, doesn't take much time and plenty variety.
Other stuff tends to be programmed and as long as it doesn't conflict with the wifes horse riding, or the trip to Asda, it can usually be sneaked into the diary. |

Well I think I might skip tonights MA and go for a walk with the missus and take the camera with me.
It's the only way it'll happen if I make time for it! Thanks for letting me think aloud.

![]() The pics out of the little Panasonic come out a bit on the sharp side, and there's more noise than you'd get with a DSLR in low light shots, but other than that the shots are pretty impressive. :icon_eek: |

I don't think your alone on that one Sammy. Most people have very busy lives in this day and age. I myself have two kids. They keep me very busy. My boy is in hockey, beavers, and swimming. The girl is in Gymnastics, brownies, and swimming as well. Weekends are up at the trailor. The kiddies are in school all day now, so I'll be going back to work doing something or other, and at nights I go to the gym with my hubby. Some people suggest to bring the camera along and try and get some shots of these activites but it just doesn't work. There just doesn't seem to be enough time in the day to relax and take pictures for most of us. I myself live beside a town called St Jacobs, most of you don't know what that is obviously, lol. It's a mennonite community and I would love to get alot of shots of them in their world. I find them very interesting. If I ever get some I will post them obviously. Anyway I think getting together with other photographers and making a day of it would work out better because than you would set aside the time out just for that. Anyhoo, that's my bit, carry on.

I was working in the Air Traffic Control Tower in Aberdeen Airport this afternoon. Thats the one place I'm not allowed to take shots and my 350d went through an x-ray scanner at the security gate. Hopefully the CF card still works! |

Sometimes I can plan a bit of time out if I'm working at home. I generally get inspired by others here, for example, and think I'd like to try that myself. I'm supposed to be in Manchester next Tuesday for a meeting with counsel - a long way for a 2 hour confrence but I think if I go (and not persuade one of my colleagues to go) then I might get some photography in afterwards. I quite the unexpected bonus of snapping somewhere new.

Indeed. I've just spent a very long 4 months or so unemployed for health reasons. Had no money for anything important, including film Now I'm back at work It's hard to find the time, unless it's my day off and then there's the pressure of the g/f etc.
Oh woe is me! I think it's just a case of sneaking in a quick 5 mins here or there and take what you can. A good way to develop your repertoire maybe? |

Well, I have the same problem. Lack of time because of work. I try to carry the camera all time, but Murphy says that when I see or feel that the scene in front could be great, that day I forget the camera, or I can't park the car there, or doesn't have time to stop to take the photo I want, because of the working hurry.
I want to try some urban shots, shots from the city, México City, the largest one on earth (and complicated too hehe) but i struggle all the time to get time to. |

Well I took the day off on Friday (for other reasons) but went out in the morning specifically to take some photos on my own. What a great time I had, just on my own doing what I wanted!
... and the strange thing was that I took a few good shots (one up in critique now) that I am pleased with. Phew, and there was I thinking it'd never happen. Just goes to show that if you put the time in you'll probably get some results.
