elements 6 and curves

Hi
I cannot find the curves facility in elements 6. Its probably just me,but if you could advise on how to sharpen pics with curves- this would be helpful!

Re: elements 6 and curves

Curves are used for adjusting tonal balance, not sharpening.

Unsharp Mask is the most common sharpening method.

Nellie
Elements does not have curves, but Larne did some research and came up with this work around.

Not quite true. Elements 6 does have a limited curves capability.

Enhance>Adjust Color>Adjust Color Curves

However, I have used the Earthbound light download in an earlier version of Elements and it worked well.

Re: elements 6 and curves

Hi
well you have all started something having successfully downloaded curves into Elements 6 (cheers Larne and Dabhand!) I bought the latest copy of Amateur photographer (yep - and Heat magazine...I'm sorry...) about BW conversions and discovered I didn't have (or couldn't find) Channel Mixers. Well 4 hours later, much googling and Roger offering advice- 'tis done!.

I still have to explore some more with this, but the web site is:

Elements Tools

if any elements users are interested.

Cheers

Nellie

Re: elements 6 and curves

Nellie, you probably appreciate that Elements has the capability for Channel mixing, curves, converting profiles etc. but many features have been disabled in earlier versions. After all it is bad for marketing, if Adobe give Elements users all of the Photoshop goodies. Some of these usefull downloads unlock these features in Elements though they may still be limited compared to PhotoShop. However, do remember to check the facilities that Adobe offer. It was implied that Elements 6 did not have curves or Channel mixer when, in fact, it now has both.

The Channel Mixer is found Enhance>Convert to Black & White and is very user friendly. The curves is found Enhance>Adjust Color>Adjust Color Curves. This allows adjustment of curves via sliders rather than setting points and moving them. This helps keep a gentle curve as it is easy to introduce unwanted effects when setting the points yourself. The use of sliders has actually been added to CS3 now and I often find this to be quite sufficient for much of my editing. You still have the full curves as well in CS3.
